  • Train to Wellington
From Auckland there are 2 trains daily to the "windy city". 1 overnight and the other for awesome daytime views of the central North Island, whizzing by. Of course I wanted to see it.
08:15 on 03/01/00 Sarah kindly drove me and luggage (bike being the most awkward by not fitting her bike rack) to Auckland central station. Only marginally busy at 2 times a day, guess when.
After checking in my bike and luggage, like at an aeroplane terminal, I boarded with a train full of people.

    Arrival in Wellington
At 19:30 the train rolled through an industrial appearing entrance to Wellington. The next day I wandered around and found the Civic Square (43KB).

    View of Wellington
From the view point to the south of the city, Mount Victoria, I caught this view of the governmental city (36KB).
To the south of the city lies Wellington airport (36KB). Its is one of the world's toughest 5 airports to land a plane, due to the exposure.

    Posing on the beach
One evening, after a free outdoor music festival in Civic Square, Clem, Gav and I fancied a pose on the beach (99KB).

    Evans Bay
Cycling around the south of Wellington took me up Mount Victoria with awesome views of the city and Evan's Bay (38KB).

    Climbing indoors
On Queens Wharf is a large indoor climbing wall with 2 independent, angle adjustable, bouldering walls. Mmmmmmarvelous. Look out for Ferg!

    Cycling near Eastborne
Taking the ferry across Wellington Harbour to Eastborne, I spent an afternoon cycling beyond Eastborne towards the harbour entrance with Daniel, a local from the hostel. On the headland was a rusting dis-used lighthouse and along the road was a unique house. See the piccies (45KB).
