Melaka International School (MIS) commenced in 1993 to cater to the expatriate population in Melaka State. From 2 students to the present 160 students comprising of students from England, Indonesia, India, Finland, Korea, Switzerland, Japan, Vietnam, the USA and Uganda. Expansion is in the pipeline to accommodate the increase in students, hostel and better facilities for sports and games with the purchase of a 3 acre land, located in the suburbs of the town. The new campus is strategically placed with easy access to the north and south via the highway. It is also near residential communities, golf courses and shopping complexes, where expatriates like to stay during their tenure of service in Malaysia. Being the only international school, catering from Junior Pre-School to “O” Levels and the soon-to-be introduced “A” level, MIS conducts the University of Cambridge IGCSE ‘O’ and ‘A’ level examination, and Key Stage examinations by the UK Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. Melaka would be ideal for students as costs are relatively lower, conducive study atmosphere without the distractions of big cities, opportunities to pursue academic, sports, clubs/societies and co-curricular activities allowing for the interaction of students, staff and families.
