An Angel to Watch Over Me

As I sat beside a small Monkey Puzzle tree, I began to wonder what my next assignment would be.
I gazed around this cozy cottage by the sea, such a lovely place for anyone to be.
Suddenly the front door opened up wide, two children then came out from the inside.
They turned to bid their Mother goodbye; she watched them leave, then heaved a sigh.
It was clear to see these children brought her much joy, they really must be a very good girl and boy.
As they skipped down the road, I could see from behind their guardian angels following, to keep them in line.
She watched them go, her face filled with pride, so much so she couldn't keep it hidden inside. Yet somehow, I knew she carried a great burden. Was she my assignment? I still was not certain.
It was in that instant my boss did appear, I tried to stay calm, I did not want to show fear.
For she is the angel who, by and large, trains all guardian angels left in her charge.
She looked right at me and frowned at my sight. I must admit my knees shook well with fright.
For this angel could banish another to afar. I could spend my eternity out polishing a star!,br> "You there!" She said quite sternly to me, "come here and I will tell you what your job is to be.
You are to be her guardian angel, and it should be noted, If you do your job well, then you will be promoted!"
I looked at the lady who could see right thru me; quite an easy assignment. How hard could this be?
Then, suddenly from nowhere, stood a man who was quite dashing. The lady looked up at him, her green eyes flashing.
He returned the gaze with eyes of pure blue, these eyes shone with a devotion so true.
To me it was clear as the blue sky above, these two people were obviously very much in love.

I looked around for HIS angel, but could see none, "There's a reason,"said the angel," he does not need one."
"How could this be? "I asked with dismay, I could not believe a human could go thru life this way.
"I'm afraid, my angel, you don't understand, these two souls before you, were dealt a strange hand.
For even though together they share time in this home, It is a sad fact, they are still very much alone! For this man you see standing, right here before you, is now but a ghost, his mortal life is thru!"
How unfair it seemed, for two so obviously in love, but we never question decisions made up above.
As the days passed, I looked on these two rather sadly, It was such a shame; for they loved each other madly.
When they spoke with each other, the look in their eyes, it was almost enough to make an angel cry!,
Sometimes at night, while she lay asleep, the man, to her bedroom, softly would creep. For hours he would watch her as she quietly dreamed, his devotion much stronger than any man it seemed.
There in the moonlight, he would make his vow, "Someday they would be together. Somehow."
One night it happened they were in the house all alone, the children and housekeeper having plans of their own.
Together, they sat in the fireplace light, The firelight making their eyes sparkle bright. It was then that I thought of a marvelous scheme. Perhaps,I could let them be together in a dream!,
I knew in the past, her dreams of him numbered many, but alas the poor man never had any.
It had been over a century since his soul needed rest, I had to think over what plan would be best.
For the lady it was simple, perhaps a little wine, she would become sleepy, in just a short time.
Just as I thought, the drink made her sleep, now to have him their appointment to keep.
It would be a little hard, what worried me most, how does one begin to put to sleep a ghost?
I went to his side, whispered softly in his ear, I wanted to assure him he had nothing to fear.,br> The song, I began to sing into his ear; a lullaby sung by his aunt, loved so dear.,
Slowly but surely his eyes began to close, his head falling softly as he entered repose.
Together their faces were set in a smile. I decided to leave them alone for awhile.,
For they were together in this place by the sea, this is how they would spend their eternity.

During that time they spent lost with each other, my boss returned and chastised as would a mother.
"What have you done to these two in my stead, surely you must be out of your head!"
"What harm could it do,"I humbly replied, "to see how it will be on the other side."
It was then a smile slowly lit her face. "I'd have done the same, were I in your place."
Together we stood and watched the pair slumber, the minutes we waited, too many to number.
When both of them awakened from their dream with a start, both of them knowing what the other felt in their heart.
"What a blessing " she said ,"we have been given!" I dreamed you and I were together in heaven.",
"M'Dear, when your time here on Earth is thru, it will be like this time I've spent here with you."
The love for each other from their beings seemed to glow, their time spent together more precious then I could know.

For many a year in this house I would remain, giving them a dream now and again.
There he remained with her, always by her side, Until he could welcome her with arms open wide.
When finally one spring morning, she failed to arise, I witnessed something that brought tears to my eyes.
For lo, hand in hand this couple there stood, seeing them kiss, my heart understood.
Together for ever, as they were meant to be, at last their love to be shared for eternity.
And there to this day they remain happily, in their cozy Gull Cottage down by the sea.
