About

Shortly after joining the Rebel Squadrons, I was amazed that no-one had written a utility to automate the process of running custom missions under LucasArts' X-Wing.  After only a short while running RS missions, I decided to write a utility myself, and here it is.

The user interface is pretty straightforward and divided into two main sections:

  1. Mission Replacement (Above the black line)
Here you can choose the mission file to run, which original mission to replace, and whether or not you want the original mission backed up.

  2. Pilot Cloning (Below the black line)
Often when running competitive missions in which you are allowed multiple runs, it would be handy to make multiple copies of a pilot.  The utility handles not only the creation of pilot clones, but also the cleanup of unused clones after the mission is completed.

Future Plans

TIE Fighter Support

With the removal of the version logic from the launcher, I am about a hundred steps closer to making it work with TIE fighter. I need to teach it to figure out what kind of mission it is loading, and intelligently change some of the file handling to expect different file extensions, but I see no reason why any of the launcher's core logic should change at all.

XMR Integration

Integrating with XMR would allow reports to be automatically generated for all "keeper" pilot files (The ones that get copied to the Mission Source directory).

Download

Okay, here are the different versions of the files that are available.

  1. Full Installation:
    Includes the VB6 runtime libraries.
  2. Medium Installation:
No VB runtimes, just the program installation
  3. Minimum Installation:
This is just the program itself, no installation program at all.
Use this only if you have a previous version installed on your system already.

Due to bandwidth restrictions, my project downloads are not stored on this site, but in the files section of my YahooGroup.  If you want to know about any new projects or versions I release, then subscribe to it.  Whenever I release something, I'll let the group know, and you can join in on discussions as well.  It's pretty low-traffic so far, but if you ONLY want the official announcements from yours truly, you can always choose the "Only Special Announcements" message delivery option.

I have had reports that some users have had difficulty with the above links.  This seems to be a problem with YahooGroups, and is easily worked around by going to the index for the group's files section, and downloading the files from there.
