Andres Yates

...and now we get to pay for this bitch's room and board for the rest of her life.

4/8/02 UPDATE:  "Maria" wrote a rebuttal to my rant, read it and my response at the bottom of the page

It would be in poor taste for me to call her the mother of all psychos, seeing as how she killed her own children, but what else can you call a nutcase of this magnitude.  Before I go any further, since this article will be here for posterity, I'll recap the details of the case for future readers.  In June 2001 Andrea Yates murdered her five children by drowning them one at a time in the bathtub.  She had to actually chase the oldest around the house after he found her drowning his sister and asked "What's wrong with Mary?"

The family, which inexplicably supports this psycho blames the murders on post-partum depression.  She'd shown signs of depression following the births of the previous four children as well.  Maybe her husband should have taken that as a sign not to get her pregnant again.  Look, I don't give a shit WHY this woman is a psycho, the simple fact is her brain is broken.  We do NOT know how to "fix" her.  Recycle her into something useful.  Burn her body, spread the ashes on a farm somewhere, and let her do something positive for the planet for a change.  All five positive things she had done previously were taken back one day in June 2001.  Her net effect on this planet is so far in the red that we should write her off as a loss, and move on.

If there has ever been a human more deserving of a slow, agonizing, public execution, I can't think of them.  But, we'll all end up supporting her for the rest of her life now behind bars instead, such is justice in America.  I can only hope that that life is short, and miserable.  Long and miserable would be better in a karmic sort of way, but I don't feel like wasting my tax dollars housing and feeding this mental mutant of a "mother".

And speaking of wasting tax dollars, I've heard they have this bitch on a suicide watch. Yeah, there's a good way to spend my money.  If she wants to kill herself, I say let her.  Hell, I'll fly to Houston and help her if she wants.  I'll even pay for my own plane ticket.

"No, no, that knot will never hold.  Let me show you how to tie a square knot."

Why is it that we put murderers on suicide watch anyway?  I think we should give them a fully-stocked holding cell full of instruments of death, turn the lights off, and close the soundproof door.

"Here's a straight razor and a glass mirror in case you need a shave, and some pills in case you have trouble sleeping.  Oh, and here's some rope in case you feel like doing some macramé while you wait for your trial."

Think of all the money we could have saved on Dahmer if we had just let him do the right thing and remove himself from the gene pool.

I find the following lyrics from "Lift your head up high (and blow your brains out)" by the Bloodhound Gang particularly appropriate.

So take your life instead of taking it for granted.
I'm thinking you should can it.  I think I'll help you plan it.
Live today like it's gonna be your last.
Hang out.  Blow your mind.  Have yourself a gas.

Updates:  On 2/19/02 I received the following missive from a "Maria" who's obviously not terribly fond of men in general.  Draw what conclusions you will about sexual orientation and/or recent break-up status. I could make implications either way, but that would just be a cheap shot at best.  Better to harness the brainpower of the masses to draw their own conclusions in a massive, parallel, multi-node exploration of all possibilities.

If you had half a brain in your ignorant head, you would be condemning the father in this case. He was the only adult in that household that did not suffer from mental illness. She was diagnosed with mental illness very early on in her ‘career’ as a mother. She tried to kill herself, was diagnosed with serious depression, yet her husband continued to impregnate her. Is this guy unaware of modern methods of birth control? Or was his misguided vision of religion in the way? Or was it his dick? When the husband/father ‘Rusty’ (stupid redneck) Yates, arrived home on the day of the childrens’ deaths, a police officer prevented him from entering the house because it was a crime scene. The officer offered to go inside and get him a glass of water. His reply? “you won’t find a clean glass in that house.” Sounds like that guy should’ve been doing some fucking dishes instead of continuing to impregnate his mentally ill wife. He worked a 40-hour per week job as an engineer. His wife worked a 168-hour per week job as a mother. He obviously had no god damn clue, and that is a choice. The photograph of that family could have been my family. My mother had 4 kids in the first four years she was married and barely made it. I consider myself lucky. Andrea Yates was no different from my mother, she just had one more kid, a bit less mental stability, and an asshole for a husband. He pays the smallest price of the whole family. He should be in jail, and you should be lobotomized.

So, how DO you solve a problem like Maria?  First I'd like to congratulate her on her utter mastery of traditional English composition and formatting.  Second, I've never seen passive-aggressiveness by proxy applied with such finesse.  Oh truly I am humbled by your superior intellect and I only hope that some day when you finally snap and try and kill someone yourself that you fail utterly in your attempt to pin it on the unfortunate most-recent male in your own pitiful life.  Maybe after my lobotomy I'll be "normal" enough to understand people like you.

In the meantime, here is the response that I sent to "Maria".

Yes, he is a lot to blame, but unless our laws were changed to make this a country I wouldn't want to live in, I'm afraid he's untouchable. We can't make being horny and stupid a crime without building a hell of a lot more jails first. However, that does not mean I should let up on the psychomom.

There are some people in this world that are just plain broken. We do not know how to fix them, and probably won't for centuries to come. In the meantime, there is nothing we can do for them, no way to make them normal, and so we ought to just put them out of our collective misery and recycle them into something useful like mulch for the garden. Dahmer was one of these people. You can't fix him, so throw him away and get a new one.

To even try and lay the majority of the blame on the father is shortsighted and extremely naive. The truly terrifying thing about insane people is that no-one ever suspects what they are truly capable of. That's because they don't work the same as you and I. You can't predict someone with a different thought process than yours. Hell, you can't even really relate to them. Think of the people in your own life that are "not quite right". I'm sure you must know of someone who just "went off" at someone for no reason that you could understand. We shrug it off and say "He was always a little strange". Well, why didn't you step in and stop him? Because you simply didn't see it coming, that's why. The serial killers are always described by their neighbors as a "quiet, nice guy. Always kept to himself".

The father in this case is a weak-minded idiot. He stepped right up to stand beside his wife after this happened, and to defend her. Myself? I would have shoved her head through a wall the first chance I got with the cops' cameras rolling and all. I'd probably spend the rest of my life in jail, but I'd spend it with a clear conscience, and be PROUD to tell the other inmates what I'd done. I'd be the only killer in jail with a DAMN GOOD reason for being there. This guy, however, probably saw this event as his final way OUT of the hell his life had no doubt become, and that should give you a pretty clear indication of the shallowness of his emotion. Five children don't mean as much to him as the chance to be "free" again.

Should he be killed? That's hard to say. It all hinges on whether or not Andrea was the kind of psycho that you see coming, or the one that catches you by surprise. She was on anti-psychotic medication already, which the doctor had taken her off of only a week or two before. If you ask me, the doctor ought to be under investigation as well, since it's pretty clear that the woman was not ready to go without some serious drugs.

We COULD jail people for being weak, or stupid, or horny, but would you still want to live here? For that matter, would you still be ALLOWED to live here, or would you be thrown in jail because your views differed enough from those in charge to be considered "dangerous". Part of the price of having your freedom is in seeing people who by all rights ought to be killed walking free around you and getting high-paying corporate jobs where they make important decisions that affect the rest of our lives. That's just life.

We can only punish those who we can all agree are guilty of a crime, and stupidity or lack of insight do not count as crimes, not yet. Perhaps in some future Orwellian utopia they will, but I sure as hell won't live there.
