| This is the Rett Syndrome Awareness pin. I designed it in January 2001, following a discussion on the Rettnet. I asked many questions regarding colours, and finally came up with the lilac - being carefull not to use a colour already in use - with a silver background. Lilac to reflex the love and gentleness of the people with Retts, and silver because it is the recognised colour for childhood disabilities. As there are many awareness ribbons in the world, I added the plaque saying Rett Syndrome, so as people in the streets didn't just pass it by without giving it another thought. The first pins went on sale in September 2001, thanks to the generosity of we-belong. the company who supply the pins, and the dedication and commitment of Lorraine Rodarte. Lorraine devoted many hours of her time to shipping the pins to those who had ordered them from us. It would never have been possible without her. The demand for thse pins was phenominal - Lorraine and I had hoped to sell maybe a hundred or so. We sold over 1000 in 4 months!! We have now happily handed over the task of selling thses pins to the Rett Syndrome Research Foundation. If you would like to purchase any please contact them at mgriffin@rsrf.org. They cost $3.50 each and that includes shipping costs. Click here to convert the cost into your currency |
