By Any Means

They returned. It was hard to believe that they had even gotten
married in the first place, and yet not Jeff and Ginger Metcalf were
returning to their hometown after a great honeymoon. It wasn't
exactly wha they would have planned, bu any means, but that sort of
described there relationship.In fact, Ginger would have never dreamt
herself married to Jeff. Not only was he her best friend's (younger!)
brother, but she has once been engaged to Charlie Hailey. But then
the war came and ended. And Jeff had lost his first love to his
brother, Hank. Although it had been hard for him to accept Sarah's
decision, Jeff was now very thankful for it. Actually it was their
mutual loss of love that led them to each other. After a night of
drinking led to their loss of their virginity, Jeff and Ginger
started having very real feelings for each other. And all thanks to
that wonderful night. Jeff, caught up in his fantasies, did not even
realize Ginger was staring at him.
"And just what are you thinking about, buster?" Ginger asked.
"Oh, I was just thinking about..baseball, what else?." He grinned at
her feigned shocked reaction.
" Baseball? Baseball? After last night, all you can think of is
baseball?' Try as she might, she couldn't pretend to feel anything
less than joy for her husband. It was all she could do to keep from
melting in Jeff's deep brown eyes. She had always thought Jeff had a
boyish quality to his eyes but for now all she could see was the man
who saved her.Saved her from her grief over Charlie, saved her
career, and saved her fom marrying Arthur.
"I was just thinking about how we got together." Jeff replied.
"You were?", she asked, touched.
"You know, when you were upset over Charlie and I was getting over
Sarah."
"What was it that brought you two together anyways?, she wondered.
Jeff sometimes didn't know how to satisfy Ginger's seemingly endless
curiousity. But this time he did.
"Somehow I don't think this is the best time to talk about this."
"And why not?:, Ginger protested.
Instead of an answer, Jeff pulled himself close to his wife and
begain to kiss her deeply.
"Oh.." she moaned as she lost herself in the moment.
