Chapter Three: "Thanks Jeff, I almost walked out without my purse." Ginger remarked nervously as she casually removed her purse from his sweaty hand.\ Anne didn't know what to say. She didn't want to assume the worst from Jeff or Ginger. This was it for her. No future as an actress. Nothing. She doubted that even anyone would show up for her funeral. Well maybe Linda if she was lucky. Her tombstone would read: Tramp of River Run. Died of humilliation. The silence when on for what seemed like hours. Three minutes passed. "Anne, you forgot your purse." Al came up from behind to kiss her neck. "Al?" Jeff asked furious. Al noticed Jeff glaring at him from the top of the stairs. "Oh hi. Your mother came over to discuss um." He racked his brain thinking of something to say. "I came over to inform Mr. Kahn that I didn't want him to influence my daughter in any union activities and..." anne looked to Al for support. "And you started necking!" Jeff finished the sentence for her. "Jeffrey Metcalf we were doing no such thing! Besides you still haven't told me what you two were doing." "Doing? We weren't doing anything. I was upset after the wedding and Jeff was nice enough to hide me for a few hours." "One o'clock in the morning is a little more then a few hours." Anne wasn't about to let them off the hook yet, especially since she was in the same predicament. "Well she fell asleep and then I fell asleep.." he said with conviction. "Not before undressing I see." Al added amused. Right then Jeff felt like punching him. How could he even say anything with just kissing his mother like that? It was his mother for heaven's sake! Not some floozy he met at some roadhouse. "Look mom, you know Ginger and you know me and we would never do anything like what your thinking." Anne still looked skeptical. Al could tell the kid was stuggling. "Look Anne I believe the kids, their not like us." he winced at her. Now Anne was horrified, Jeff looked angry, and Ginger well Ginger wss looking forward to a future as a nun. "Okay I belive you. Jeff you better walk Ginger home before her parents find out she's been gone if their not worrying already." She wasn't sure if she believed them but she did belive that she could die from embarrasment. What would Hank and Linda after they hear from Jeff about Al kissing her? They only made out in the car when he pulled up her driveway but that could have led to other things if she hadn't stopped it. "Well you might want to put something on first." Al smirked. Ginger stayed downstairs while Jeff ran upstairs to change. She was just glad Al showed up, although she didn't want Jeff to walk her home. How could she face him now, well I'll guess I have to. "I'm ready." he took Ginger's arm and led her out the door. "Bye, Mrs. Metcalf." she said staring at the groung. "Bye Jeff, Ginger." Anne replied watching them leave. "Well I really enjoyed the evening. Thanks for your advice about Linda but she's really not my type anyway. Maybe you can come over to yell at me again, say this Thursday." Al said with a big grin before leaving. |
