Hello everyone,

Well it has really been quite some time since we’ve sent out an update.  Not too much really going on besides the anxiety of waiting for the arrival of our son.  The past month has definitely been the hardest – as most of you know I just may be the most impatient person in the world!  Besides being impatient I just have finally caved into the woes of being the uncomfortable pregnant woman.  I have reached 170 pounds which is a weight gain of a whopping 50 pounds.  So that is a lot of extra weight that I have to move around with – that has been very difficult.  My knees are even swollen, so much that at my last appointment they sent me to get an ultrasound on the back of my knee to be sure it wasn’t a blood clot.  Luckily no clot – just fat!  My last 3 appointments I have been dilated at half a centimeter – which is nothing and no progression what-so-ever.  At my last appointment the doctor was going to attempt to rupture my membranes in an attempt to get things moving along but I was even too small for her to do that, which secretly I was happy for because I’ve heard that procedure leaves you cramping, bleeding and in a lot of pain over the next few days.  It appears Nico is very comfortable in that warm lil area of his inside my tummy.

Aaron and I have been trying to keep busy to pass the days faster.  Last weekend we went out to dinner, went miniature golfing, went to an engagement party for a college buddy of Aarons, followed by going to a downtown bar for our friend Jen’s 30th Birthday Celebration.  We had a great time and ended up dancing and shaking our groove thangs well into the morning – 2 AM!  The next day we had a Super Bowl party at our house.  Tonight we are joining our friends for dinner & karaoke.

Aaron’s new job is going very well.  He was working in the field for awhile but he has started working more in the office now and has won his first 2 bids that he has put out, so things are really looking up and he is enjoying his new job very much.  As usual, he has been fantastic.  He has certainly contributed greatly to the fact that I feel I’ve had a pretty easy pregnancy. He is constantly helping me out – even putting on and tying my shoes at times.  A few weeks ago when my back was seriously aching he came home with a wonderful present – a power massager from Brookstones – I love it and it works wonders.  We’ve been having fun going to his Monday night indoor games and seeing our friends, although this Monday they are going to have to win the game with out him.

We finally heard back from our doctor just now and we are all set with an induction date of this Monday, February 3rd at 8 PM.  This means I will most likely deliver sometime Tuesday afternoon so for those of you who have participated in the baby pool that means that it’s going to be a close call between my cousin Deanna and my mom!!  We are so excited to know that we will have a baby by Tuesday night!  We’re pretty sure he wont’ be coming on his own over the weekend – although … you never know!!  Either way, next weekend we will be home with our son, Nico Kai!!! How exciting!!!

Valentines day weekend we will be surrounded by love.  My mother & grandmother are flying out for 2 weeks and Aaron’s parents, sister & brother-in-law are flying in for that weekend. We feel so blessed that we’ll be surrounded by our family and we are just so excited for everyone to meet lil Nico.  My dad has to work but will be out the following weekend.  I wish my brother could make it, but not this time – soon hopefully!!  For the rest of you in California, we are planning to fly home for Easter – so we look forward to seeing you all at that time.  For those of you in Iowa we are hoping to get out there in May over Memorial Weekend!!

Well as always, please email us back and let us know how you are doing.  We love keeping in touch with friends and family, so don’t forget about us, we certainly haven’t forgotten about you! J

Much love,

Melissa, Aaron & Nico Kai
