Sailor Moon Says: Die DiC!!! Heeheeheehee!

We've had to tolerate them until our subtitled Sailormoon videos come in. Who is "them"? Why the DiC dub ofcourse! I don't know about you, but if I hear one more of those "Sailor Says", I gonna fall off the fine edge of sanity. These things are DiC's pathetic attempt at making anime educational. You want educational, watch Seasame Street. Sailormoon was not meant to teach kids about the dangers of drugs and strangers, but the Sailor Says isn't even the real reason why the dub is so bad. The reasons it's so bad are: they changed the storyline completely, and those damn voice actors!

Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon is a funny, fast-paced, action-packed anime with something for every age. Sailor Moon is the world for the eyes of a 8 year old. DiC has taken the meaning totally out of this anime. They have removed important religious things that are rather important to the show (eg- Aku Ryo Tai San turns into Mars Fireballs Charge), they also took out some of the funniest moments in the show because they were deemed "unappropiate", and they took out some of the saddest and most meaningful scenes because they were "too violent" or something like that. Now, I am currently very patiently waiting for my subtitled episodes to come in (all of the SuperS and most of the StarS), but I have the movies and they are the same quality anime the show is and if DiC had ever gotten their hands on them, I don't know what they would have done. Like in the Super movie, what would they have done to Princess Kaguya and the Snow dancers? Put sweaters on them because they weren't wearing shirts, or just cut them out all together and reincarnate Queen Beryl and her henchmen for the Senshi to fight. Would they even allow Luna to fall in love with Kakeru? Would they leave in the part where the Rei accused Usagi of abusing Luna? What would be left of the movie after DiC "edited" it? Now, after hearing this, do we really want to see DiC dub SMS? What will they make Uranus and Neptune, sisters?! I certainly hope not. If you want to see the SMS, I can escort you somewhere that will give you 15 eps a tape for a mere $11 and you can see them like they were meant to be seen. Here is a wonderful little story I found about Andy Heyward, the director of the NA Sailor Moon. It's really funny. I wish i could remember who I got it from, oh well, I didn't write it.

Then there's the voice actors. Where did they find these people? Naru, Mako, Ami, Luna! What have they done to you?! Naru-chan isn't supposed to sound like some sick Brooklyn person! Makoto isn't supposed to sound like a pre-adolencent boy, and Ami and Luna aren't supposed to sound like English women on crack! Luna is supposed to be Usagi's age, not 50! And then there's the script. What is a "gasket"? And no offense to Terri Hawks, but your voice annoys the s**t out of me! DiC has made Serena's clumsiness annoying and stupid, while Usagi's is cute. Then what really bugs me is that they change the voice actors every season. Darien's had 3, Serena and Raye have both had 2. Really, as soon as we get use to hearing these awful sounds projecting from our televisions, DiC goes and tortures us more with new ones. And Ann and Ail AREN'T from the Negaverse!!!

DiC has done a horrible job dubbing this anime. They cut out too many scenes, they got awful voice actors, and they completely changed the plot. Like someone at DIRE said: "Listening to a bad dub is like listening to fingernails scraping down a blackboard."

Ofcourse there are good points to the dub. For one thing, it's in english. Secondly, it's what got most of us into Sailormoon and anime all together in the first place. I mean sure, I was all for the dub til I found the original, which in my opinion was much better. Heck, I even wrote an editorial for english on why DiC should dub all the episodes of Sailormoon, I got an A on it too. I have those disgusting Sailor Moon Adventure Dolls, just because they were the only kind of Sailormoon doll I could get (and because Kay Bee Toys had them on sale for $3 a piece). So despite all my ranting, there are good points to the dub. But then again, I never said that there weren't any, I just said I didn't like it. There IS a difference. But really, DiC could have done a little better (ok, a lot better) job dubbing BSSM. I mean, look at the dubs Ranma 1/2, Blue Seed, Revolutionary Girl Utena, and Devil Hunter Yohko (ESPECIALLY DHY, they kept in everything, seriously). Those dubbed animes are awesome! All of the voice actors are awesome too (except for maybe Ryouga's in Ranma 1/2, and Mamoru in Blue Seed). Those are excelently dubbed animes. Watch them. Go to your nearest Hollywood Video, Blockbuster, whatever, and rent these animes.
