Ch 4 Happy Birthday... or unhappy? Lita woke up to a sunny morning. She looked at the clock. 'I'm lucky today isn't a school day,' Lita thought. It was 11:30. She got up and checked her mail. "Where's the mail?" Lita thought out loud. She was expecting that there would be a huge pile of birthday cards like last year. But this year there was none. Lita sighed. Then her phone rang. It was Serena. "Hey, Lita! Could you bake a cake for me? My... dad is going somewhere to a birthday party, and he told his friend that you bake cakes better than the store! And now his friend wants you to bake the cake." Serena sputtered. She was not good at keeping secrets. "But Serena..." Lita tried to remind Serena about her birthday. "Oh and Lita, you can make it anyway you want it to look like... and... just put happy birthday. You can come to the party too. 'Kay? Bye!" Serena quickly hung up the phone. "Serena! You're making it sound so obvious that we're making a surprise party for her!" Raye yelled. "Hahaha! Ugh... Oh well! She bought it... I guess..." Serena said. "Serena, you're impossible!" Mina Amy and Raye yelled. "Let's just start arranging things, like, inviting more people. We didn't invite Locke yet!" Serena excused. The others just nodded in agreement. Locke's phone rang. "Hi Locke? It's Serena." Serena said. "Oh, hi Serena, what's up?" Locke was surprised that Serena would call. "Would you like to come to Lita's Birthday Party?" Serena asked. "Sure. I have the perfect gift already that my mom gave to me before. Does she know I'm coming?" Locke asked. "Oh! NoNoNO! It's a surprise birthday party. It starts at 5, but be there at 4. It's at the... uh... Video Arcade near school. You know, crown video games?" Serena tried to explain. "Yeah I know where that is. So at four? Okay, bye Serena." They hung up. Locke went to his dresser and pulled out a glass box. In it was a necklace. It was an emerald with a gold moon plated on the bottom. Locke knew that Lita would love it. Lita mixed the cake, stroking it with every ounce of her strength. 'How could they forget my birthday...' Lita thought. She was mad for some reason. When she finished mixing the cake, she put it in the oven. Then she thought she saw some shadow hiding. She went to take a look but no one was there. "Don't tell me my brain still thinks I'm crazy." Lita said. Her doorbell rang. "Hey, Lita! Just wanna see how you're doing!" Serena came in. "Mm, smells good!" Serena commented. "Who is the cake for?" Lita asked. "What? I thought you knew! It's obviously for... uh, oops, I'm thinking... uh, Andrew. I... don't think you've met him before!" Serena stammered. She was about to say it was for Lita, but then she remembered Raye's voice (of doom): 'If you sputter out one word about her birthday, I swear, Serena, you can't borrow any of my comics, play any of my video games, no food from here, and plus that, you'd be BURNT TOAST!' Serena shuddered. She knew what Raye could do if she was really really mad! "Hey Serena? Serena! Are you on the moon or something?" Lita said. "I was asking you something!" she finished. "Huh? What?" Serena said. "Serena, I was asking about my..." Lita started. "Uh, the cake?! Oh! It looks very nice!" Serena knew what Lita was going to ask. "You can't even see the cake! It's still in the oven!" Lita growled. "Now, about my..." "Your homework? You... can ask Amy about that!" Serena interrupted Lita again. "Serena, we don't HAVE any homework!" Lita was getting madder. Serena could see the look on her face. "Now, Serena, about my..." "Oh sheesh!" Serena interrupted Lita the third time. "Look at the time!" Serena exclaimed, pointing at her watch. "Gotta help Raye! Promised her I'd help her clean up! You know Raye when she's really mad! I'll pick you up when it's time! Bye, Lita!" Serena burst out the door. "She's lost it!" Lita said aloud. "Serena, you're hopeless!" Raye complained. "Lita almost found out! I should've gone!" It was four o'clock. "Okay, is everyone here?" Mina stood up, and checked the chart. Everybody was supposed to check off their name when they got in. "Looks like everyone is," Amy said. "I'll go get Lita!" Serena said. "Hey, Lita! Is the cake ready?" Serena asked. Lita stepped aside. "WOW! It looks cool!" Serena exclaimed. It was pretty big, so everyone at the party would have seconds. "My dad's waiting in the car!" Serena said. She helped Lita with the cake. Then they got in the car. "Hey, Lita!" Serena's dad said. 'He's in a good mood,' Lita thought. Serena's dad didn't really like Lita because of the way she uses self defense. 'This is driving me nuts!' Serena's dad thought. He didn't like being nice to Lita, but she was Serena's friend, plus it's her birthday, and Serena begged him A LOT to do this. Serena's dad muttered something. "Daddy, did you say anything?" Serena asked. "No, Serena." Her dad replied. "Hey, Lita, what's wrong?" Serena asked. They were nearly at the party. Lita said nothing during the whole trip. "Huh?" Lita asked. "Oh, I'm tired from baking that cake," Lita said. Serena's dad went into the alley, because then Lita would get suspicious. "Why are we going in the alley?" Lita asked. "Oh, well, the entrance is at the back." Serena exclaimed. "I'll take the cake now, you girls wait here." Her dad said. "Where are we? Are we at the crown video games center?" Lita asked curiously, as she noticed a few trucks. "Oh, this is some sort of game center and since it's not as popular as Crown, then they get their stuff from crown... I guess." Serena was not good at explaining things. Inside, Serena's dad put the cake in the middle of the table. Then put some letters on the cake that said "Lita". "Okay, everybody hide. Mina, when Lita steps onto the X," He started. "Yeah, yeah, pull the string, then everybody jumps up and says 'surprise'." Mina said. "Okay, I'll go get them." Serena's dad said. Serena and Lita waited impatiently. Then Serena saw her dad. "Okay, Lita, let's go." Serena said. Inside, Lita was confused. "Serena, where's your dad? And why is there no one in this room?" Lita asked. Lita stepped on the X, which she didn't notice. Mina pulled the string. Balloons, confetti, and a bunch of this other stuff poured over Lita's head. "SURPRISE!" Everyone yelled. Lita was very shocked, she didn't know what to say. "I-I, I thought you guys forgot!" Lita tried to say. "How could we ever forget your birthday?!" Serena exclaimed. Lita smiled. "This is really great!" Lita said. Music went on and everyone started dancing, and playing video games, and of course, grabbing a lot of food. Especially Serena. "Mmm, these cookies are good!" Serena stuffed one cookie after another in her mouth. "Uh, Serena, I'd save some room for the cake if I were you!" Locke said behind her. "Yeah, Serena! You know Lita's food is better than anyone else's!" Raye said. Lita blushed. "Not really, Raye!" Lita said. She didn't want to admit it. "What do you mean, 'Not really'? Everybody knows it's true!" Locke said. Lita blushed even more. They danced 'til they dropped. Then it was time to cut the cake. Everyone sang happy birthday while Lita blushed furiously. Then Lita blew out the candles, getting all in one blow, then everyone had cake. "Seconds for everyone!" Serena yelled. She already finished hers, while everyone else was not even halfway finished. Lita ten opened some of the presents. Lita opened Serena's first, since she was the one who organized most of this. "Thanks, Serena!" Lita said. It was a recipe book that had most of the best tasting foods on earth. "This actually turned out to be a great party!" Lita commented. Then someone covered her eyes. "Guess who!" Lita knew who it was. "Mickey Mouse?" Lita teased. "No, wait, don't tell me, Sailor Moon? No, is it one of the Spice girls? Or maybe it's Donald Duck?" Lita teased some more. "Okay, quit it!" Locke complained. As Locke removed his hands, he placed the necklace he was planning to give her. He attached the back. "oh, Locke! It's beautiful! Where did you get it?" Lita admired the necklace. "It was my mom's." Locke said. "She let you give it to me? But it's so pretty!" Lita said. She didn't understand why his mom would give up such a thing. "No, my mom... died about four years ago with sickness." Locke said. "Locke! Why didn't you tell me before?" Lita looked mad. "Well," Locke started. "I was only joking!" Lita said. Then Lita gave Locke a kiss (on the lips), while everyone applauded. Then they both blushed. Fiona got in a fit again. "That's it, you little brunette!" Fiona screamed, as she watched from her mirror. Fiona started up her power. "Go easy on her." Muron came behind her. "Why? Why can't I just kill her?" Fiona complained. "She has the heart diamond," Muron said. "Remember, if the host of the heart diamond dies, the diamond will shatter." Muron explained. "Fine." Fiona pouted. At the party, everyone was stuffed. "Mm, Lita, you cook the best stuff!" Molly said. Lita smiled. "Thanks." Then the lights went off. "Hey! What's going on?" Amy wondered. Then a strong wind came. Lita went flying across the room so fast, she didn't have time to scream. Then she was knocked unconscious. Then the Lights went back on. "Lita!" Serena cried. "The party's off, someone call an ambulance!" Raye said. Everyone was disappointed, but worried about Lita. Later, Lita was at the hospital. "Huh?" Lita started to wake up. Serena looked down at her. "Lita! Are you okay?" Serena asked, worried. "Mom? Is that you?" Lita asked. "No, it's me Serena!" Serena said. "Who are you?" Lita asked. Serena was shocked. "Lita! It's your friend! I... I mean I'm your friend." "I never saw you in my whole intire life!" Lita complained. The doctor came in. "May I have a word with you, miss?" The doctor said. Once outside, the doctor started to explain. "Your friend has some sort of amnesia. She knows nothing about the present. It seems her memory went back to her childhood. This is very rare. She'll have to stay at home with someone that could watch over her every minute until she remembers everything." Serena was... well... she didn't know. She had a bunch of mixed up feelings. She knew that this would be a hard task.
