Canadian Fashion and Design.

            This report is about Canadian Fashion and design. With lots of the big designers, but the main focus is P.O.W. It is a very well known and respected design inc. This report also deals with what is in style right now, and what the designers look for when they try to create a new line, that will be a big hit, when it hits the runway.

Fashion is something that has gone throughout time. The definition for fashion is the prevailing style or custom in dress behavior; the latest in what to wear. Fashion is know to change a lot, and has changed a lot through out the years. Fashion also indicates style. The definition for style is: the way something is done, it is made big and then followed by people. So if some one were to wear a skirt and some one else saw it, and they liked it, then they would wear it, creating a new fashion.

Things that influence style are, culture change. Different cultures wear different clothing, and always have. Most new styles of clothing come from foreign countries, and then they wear their clothing in a place like, Canada or the United States. Then the style of clothing is duplicated and worn by the people there. An example of a style being started off of another country is, the Europeans brought silk into clothing, and now it is used in a lot of big designers work.

Some different eras that are coming back are from the 1940’s and the 1980’s. Mini skirts were really big in the 1980’s and are now back bigger then ever, made in every shape size, and color. Designers are making them in tweed, leather, denim and other materials. Denim is the most commonly seen out of all the materials. Tweed is also back very big; it is coming out in everything, such as skirts, jackets, dresses, and hand bags.

Some very common, well known and well paid designers for ready to wear looks are, David Dixon, Denis Gagnon, Harebell, Jennifer Dares, Arthur Mendonca, Misura, Nadya Toto, Paul Hardy, P.O.W., and Ula Zukowska. For a more street look wear, the most common designers are, Falbala and CIMM. These designers are all very good. And if you would like some very good designers for fur and leather, then take a look at, the Mackage line. Most designers, after making a clothing line, choose to make accessory lines to help collaborate with the line. They also start to make hand bag lines, and some even go on and make an eye wear line, to make the look complete.  

P.O.W. is a very big fashion design company, which I have chosen to be as my main focus, for Canadian fashion and design. They have made some of Canada’s biggest lines to hit the runway. P.O.W. is a sensible clothing line, which has styles for every occasion. The line is fresh and exciting, not a cheap replica of some one else’s designs. P.O.W. brought the taste of East Los Angeles to Canada! Making them Canada’s biggest fashion hit ever. The clothing is all custom made, and matched with every detail. Most of the designs made are made for smaller frames, and are also designed to fit the body perfectly.

P.O.W's main designer is Andy (The-Ahn), he is also their biggest designer. He likes to make out fits out of string, and puts every detail where it should be. When he makes a custom dress for some one, he put pinches and flairs where he thinks it will help to accent the body. He likes to use a lot of color, mint green is his color of choice for right now.

This topic was very good, and I enjoyed working on it. I learnt a lot about the things that designers look for when creating clothing lines and who a lot of the really good designers are. I learnt how clothing can accent the body and personal features.
