Warrior of Legend
Note: Remember the story of the Warrior of Legend at the beginning of the game? Nothing is being said about it after that. Thus I have come up with a story about it. I'm actually assuming that the legend has been misinterpreted due to many years of passing the story down in Expel. The actual version is found during their stay on Nede. So don't kill me!!! This is set after the twelve heroes had defeated the Ten Wise Men and conquered the Cave of Trials. Enjoy! Oh one more thing you should take note though, Rena actually says 'Fairy Heal' too when she executes the spell Fairy Light. I'm simply following the game. But it is differentiated with an '!' mark. Thus 'Fairy Heal' is Fairy Heal and 'Fairy Heal!' means Fairy Light. Don't worry about Noel, he says 'Fairy Heal' for Fairy Heal and 'Fairy Light' for Fairy Light.
Chapter 1
It was just another day in the village of Arlia. It was also a happy day for the Arlians. One, Rena was back. Two, Claude has decided to stay in Arlia. But most of all, Dias was back. He had left Arlia two years ago due to some reason but has returned. The villagers were more than happy to see him. That was a reason for celebration. They were preparing a surprise 'welcome back' party for Dias. That was, of course, Rena's idea. Soon, everything was ready. All that's left is to get Dias.
"Where is he?" Westa asked Rena and Claude.
"Beats me," Claude replied. Silence fell upon the villagers.
"I think he's in the Shingo Forest," Rena said suddenly. "I'll go get him."
Rena went quickly to the Shingo Forest. She was right. Dias was at the Shingo Forest, paying his respects to his deceased family. But most of all, he wanted to speak to Cecille. Rena was watching silently. Only after that, Rena walked up to him. "Dias, the villagers want to see you."
"Let's go."
When Dias walked into the village, he did not see anyone. 'They must be gathered together somewhere in the village,' Dias thought. But then, when he reached the western part of the village, there was still no one in sight. "?" Then, out of the blue, the villagers ran out of both Mayor Regis' and Rena's house, yelling, "SURPRISE!!! WELCOME BACK DIAS!!!" Well, anyone would have thought that Dias would be surprised, but he wasn't.
"You guys are still the same, aren't you?" Dias said with a laugh.
"Well, it was Big Sister Rena's idea," Lucia said.
"Come here Lucia," Dias called. When he arrived, Dias picked Lucia up and asked, "Have you been a good boy while I'm gone?"
"Of course, Big Brother Dias," Lucia replied. Regis cried, "Let the party begin!" Then everyone started 'devouring' the food that Westa has volunteered to cook.
"Let's go and eat before all the food is gone," Rena said to Dias.
"Ha ha. I remember them as big 'gluttons'," Dias told Rena. "Better hurry."
******
After the party, Westa and the maid were cleaning up. Rena had volunteered to help. The other villagers were preparing for bed. Claude and Dias were sitting on the bridge that is near Rena's house beside the river, talking.
"So, how do you like the village? I believe that you are just getting to know them," Dias spoke first. "They simply haven't changed these two years."
"Well…," Claude began. "They are very nice people, very carefree. The environment is very fresh, unlike Earth. I like this planet."
"You mean Earth is not like Expel?"
"Yeah," Claude replied. "Earth is too busy and polluted. Some people just don't care about nature, the environment. They are killing the planet. But luckily, there people trying to save it. People who love nature and the environment. People like Noel Chandler."
"You sound like you don't like Earth," Dias said with awe. "So, you don't regret your decision to stay in Expel then. Ernest could have brought you back, you know."
"No I don't. I like it here. In Expel. With all of you."
"Hello…," someone started. Claude jumped. He turned to see who was it, only to find Rena looking at the both of them.
"Whoa, you gave me a shock, Rena," Claude said, his heart still thumping wildly.
"Your bed is ready. It is dark already. Time to turn in," Rena reminded the two of them. Then she went off back towards her house. Claude, noticing that Dias did not get shocked by Rena, asked, "Dias, you did not get shocked?"
"I'm used to it already," Dias simply replied and went back towards his house. "Good night."
"Oh. I guess that there are still lots of things I have to get used to huh?" Claude told himself.
Chapter 2
"Do you really have to go?" Rena asked again.
"I have to. I'm going to clear up the remaining monsters after the Quadratic Sphere was destroyed. Besides I promised Ashton that I would do it with him. Don't worry, I'll be back in a month, I promise," Dias replied.
"Alright. Remember, you promised."
"Take care and good luck," Rena and Claude wished together. Dias turned and went towards Salva.
******
Salva is very famous for their craftsmanship in jewellery. Salva was also a mining town. Lots of minerals could be found here. There is also a dragon's nest in the mine. This is where Claude, Rena and Celine met Ashton. That few months ago, an unfortunate 'accident' happened.
Dias stepped into town. The sounds of mining and people rushing around were most deafening. "So noisy," Dias uttered and set to look for Ashton. After searching for quite sometime, Dias managed to find Ashton in the jewellery store. Typical if you have noticed that Ashton has an interest in jewellery. He also has a unique fascination for barrels too. A strange person indeed. Ashton was trying to bargain with the shopkeeper on the price on a mithril necklace but was still unsuccessful.
"Come on, don't be so stingy," Ashton argued. "It's only a little."
"I can't," Faye said firmly. And it looks like Gyoro and Ururun are getting impatient.
"Hey, Faye, why don't you just give my friend here the discount he wanted, I'm sure he'll be most happy."
Faye started sweating. "Uh, h-he's your friend, Dias? O-Of course I'll give him the discount." Faye sold the necklace to Ashton.
"Thanks."
******
"Gyoro and Ururun were getting impatient," Ashton remarked. "You came when you should or I'm going to have another bout of bad luck. I've always wanted this as a lucky charm."
"Isn't the Tri-Emblem enough? And the Melufa seems to be giving you luck too you know," Dias remarked.
"Oh, I didn't notice," Ashton replied. "But anyway, I've gotten the passports already. And, the King asked us to visit Mars first. There have been reports of monsters and the King is too busy to investigate. He was thinking that since there are heraldic arts users there, they will be able to handle the monsters. Besides, he's busy rebuilding Clik."
"Then let's go."
******
"There are more monsters coming! And they are coming from the Heraldry Forest!" The Village Elder yelled. "We must destroy the source, wherever it's from!"
"I believe that it is from the Heraldry Forest!" Eglas yelled back.
"There are too many of them!" Labe yelled. "Are the children alright?"
"I can't see them! They may have been captured!"
"Celine! Try and destroy the source!" Eglas yelled to his daughter.
"Got your message Father! Come on, Noel darling!" Celine yelled in response. Noel quickly followed Celine to the Heraldry Forest.
******
"Dias! Slow down! I can't run as fast as you! What's the hurry?" Ashton panted and gasped between small breaths.
"Mars is already under heavy attack! I can feel it!" Dias yelled back. "Must hurry!"
"Now that's a different case!" With that, Ashton ran faster.
Soon the two warriors reached Mars. Dias' 'sixth sense' had proved it right. Mars was in dire need. Dias paused and saw that three monsters had a hold on three kids and were trying to escape with them.
"Full Moon Slash!" Dias drew his sword as fast as he has arrived. That killed the first monster and forced it to drop the kid. He did the same with the second and the third one. After that, the three kids ran towards Dias.
"Big Brother Dias!" Cecille, Colin and Batts cried, running towards Dias.
"Are you three alright?" Dias asked with concern.
"We're alright, but the village is under heavy attack! You must help!" Cecille replied with anxiety in her voice.
'Too many monsters,' Dias thought. 'I won't be able to kill them off fast enough.' Just then, Ashton arrived, panting.
"Who is this strange Big Brother?" Batts asked when he noticed Ashton. "He has two dragons behind his back."
"Ashton, hurry!" Dias quickly dragged Ashton to the scene of monsters. "Use your tri-Ace Killer Move!"
"Okay already. What's the hurry? Sheesh. Here goes… Oh the almighty Tria!" Ashton started. "Overthrow all the enemies!"
Ashton joined both of his swords together. Then Gyoro and Ururun fused with his sword. After that, Ashton swinged his sword and slammed it into the ground, creating a giant shockwave quake that killed all the enemies with one swift blow. Then Ashton separated both of his swords and his two dragons returned to normal.
"Just in time," Dias uttered.
Eglas ran up to Dias, " You must go and help Celine. She is trying to stop the source of the monsters."
"As good as done," Dias replied. "Come on, Ashton." Dias led Ashton to the Heraldry Forest.
******
"There is not enough time to cast the stronger spells!" Noel yelled. "We have to kill them off fast! 'Fairy Heal'," the heal spell quickly took effect.
"The monsters are attacking very fast! We won't be able to kill them quickly with weaker spells!" Celine yelled back. But then, two flying monsters suddenly decided to swoop down on the both of them. "Oh dear, Noel darling! Prepare to defend yourself!"
Then they prepare themselves for the inevitable.
Chapter 3
Both Celine and Noel took in very hard hits. Well, they were just injured, maybe slightly, but the next attack could prove fatal. Not enough time for a heal spell…… Almost as if the pair of monsters could sense the victory after this last attack, they poised to attack again. It could be the end. But hope is not lost. As the monsters are about to attack the two spellcasters, two figures, at a terrifying speed, leaped over the two of them, and with quick slashes, knocked the two monsters from the air onto the ground.
"Illusion!"
"Sword Dance!"
The two warriors took out both of them in a flash. Understanding that they were saved, Celine casted a heraldic spell and Noel casted a heal spell. "Fairy Light"……"Southern Cross!" That healed Celine and Noel and took out the remaining monsters.
"That was a relief," Celine sighed heavily.
Ashton turned to look at Celine. "Relief?"
"You two came when you should and ……" Celine sentence was interrupted by Dias' 'careful' nature which caused all that are present to look at him.
"Wait a minute, I thought I saw something moving?"
Dias was right. There WAS something that's moving. It swooped down on the whole group of them so quickly that it was hard to notice. But as it approached the four, its advancement was repelled by the power of the Holy Sword Farewell. A blinding flash emitted by the sword had blinded not only the intruder, but the four of them as well.
"What the heck? The sword can do that?!" Dias was shocked by the power the sword gave out. As all of them regained sight, they managed to see who was trying to attack them.
"Shin!" Noel glared at the familiar figure.
"I thought we killed you?! Hey?! Noel, you know this guy?" Dias exclaimed.
"He's a Nedian and it also happens that he is a manservant of the Ten Wise Men, so naturally I know him," Noel explained.
"So Mr. Zoologist still remembers me? I'm pleased to see you again," Shin uttered with glee.
"Why don't you just go away peacefully," Celine started.
"Or do you prefer to fight us and lose again?" Ashton continued, unsheathing his pair of Melufa, ready to attack any time.
"Ha, ha," Shin laughed. "I would love to have a round with you all but I'm very busy right now. Maybe you should worry about tranquility. So ta-ta." With that, Shin flew off.
"What the heck does he mean by that?" Ashton was disgusted. "He ran off without even a fight! Grrr……"
"Let it go Ashton darling," Celine began. "Now why don't we all go back to the village? The monsters are all dead."
The four of them started going back to Mars. But what Shin said had left Dias wondering what it was all about.
******
Upon reaching the village, they went to Celine's house to discuss the situation that had begun to arise due to Shin's appearance.
"Why is Shin here?" Celine began the meeting. "We killed him months ago."
"Could the Ten Wise Men be involved?" Ashton proposed.
"Nah, couldn't be," Celine quickly retorted.
"But the King said that there are still lots of monsters around," Ashton argued. "Not only Cross but Lacour as well. Dias and I wanted to destroy the Quadratic Sphere once and for all but it seems it may not be possible now."
"No, wait," Noel suddenly cut in. "The others not possible, but Indalecio maybe."
"How do you explain that?"
"Well," Noel started. "Indalecio is actually Dr. Lantis, as we all found out. Rena and Claude told me that they had actually seen Filia, Lantis' daughter, telling them to kill her as to prevent his consciousness from awaking but was too late. You think it's possible?"
"I don't know," Celine replied. Everyone was lost for words.
"Hey, what's this?" Ashton remarked as he noticed a book lying on the table.
"Oh," Celine noticed it. "That is a book on the Warrior of Legend."
"Do you think this legend is true?" Ashton started flipping the book. "'The warrior will appear when the world is in danger. He will wield the sword of light and with another, will destroy the ultimate evil that threatens the universe.' The warrior did not appear the first time the universe is in danger. That means it may appear now."
"Or maybe the legend is not true at all," Celine replied.
"Hey! Where did you get this book from?" Noel asked.
"Oh, from the library in Giveaway on Nede," Celine replied.
"Another book from Nede," Noel uttered to himself.
"Can I keep this book?" Ashton asked.
"Why not?"
"Ashton. What you read from the book, the warrior did not wear alien renaments?" Dias asked.
"Apparently, no."
"Oh, those villagers, all of them misinterpreted the legend," Dias exclaimed. "And to think Rena believes that the legend was rightly told. Wait a minute……"
"What's the matter?"
"What Shin said, it suddenly struck to me what it means. Tranquility means Arlia as Arlia is the most quiet town in Expel. Rena and Claude are in danger!"
"Oh dear. We got to hurry!" Celine cried. "With only the two of them, they don't stand a chance!"
"Let's take the Synard," Noel suggested. "It's faster that way."
"Let's go!"
Chapter 4
"Star Flare!" The unsuspecting monsters were killed by it. Claude was already panting.
"We can't keep this up forever! Not without the others fighting with us!"
"I know that Claude, but…… LOOK OUT!"
Claude was assaulted by a monster. He fell back, injured.
"Claude!" Rena cried.
"D-Don't w-worry about me. S-Save yourself and t-the villagers," Claude stammered.
"No! I won't leave you!" Rena yelled back. "I'll cast a heal spell!"
"T-There is n-not enough t-time, j-just go!"
"No!"
"R-Rena! Look out! R-Run!"
"I'll protect you, Claude!"
Time was running out. Arlia could be lost to the monsters.
"…tri-Ace!" Some of the monsters died.
"……Earthquake!" Even more monsters died.
"………Meteor Swarm!" Almost all the monsters died.
"Synard! …… Noah!" All of the monsters died.
Rena was shocked. That was too sudden. "Fairy Heal," Rena healed Claude.
"Yahhh! We're saved!" All of the villagers ran out from the safety of their homes, cheering.
"Uhhh." Claude was coming round. He was wide awake almost at once and saw that all the monsters have died. "What happened to all the monsters?"
"This is what happened, Claude darling."
Celine, Noel and Ashton appeared right before the both of them.
"Hey! How did you know that we were in danger?" Rena asked suspiciously.
"Thanks to Shin, of course," Dias replied as he got off the Synard. "How could he fool someone who has seen the world, born and lived in Arlia, and obviously knows that Arlia is the most tranquil place in Expel?"
"Oh, Dias." Everyone laughed.
******
That night, everyone stayed over at Dias' house.
"So, you all are saying that Indalecio could be alive?" Rena got this straight.
"Yeah," Noel replied.
"This could mean disaster, if it is true," Claude said thoughtfully.
"This is getting nowhere," Celine stood up, yawning. "Let's sleep on it." Everyone agreed. All of them were preparing to turn in.
"Err, Dias," Noel started. "Could I speak to you, alone?"
"Sure, why not? Let's go down to the bridge."
******
"Now what is it that you wanted to speak to me about?"
"It's about the Synard," Noel replied, feeling a bit uneasy on whether to ask what's on his mind.
"Yeah, what about the Synard?" Dias asked, staring into the water.
"The battle earlier, you commanded the Synard to cast a Heraldic Spell, how did you do that?"
"Is there a problem with that?"
"Yes. Although the Synard is staying with me, I never really got it to do that. I don't have trouble communicating with any other animals, only the Synard does not speak to me. The way you got the Synard to do that, it's as if there is a connection between you and the Synard."
"Oh, how the heck would I know? You're the animal expert," Dias replied mockingly.
"I thought you will say that."
"Really?"
"Ahhharrr," a voice called out, sounding hurt.
"What was that?" Dias looked up quickly and to Noel.
"That was the Synard! Something is wrong!"
"It is being attacked. Should we call the others?"
"No time! To the Shingo Forest!"
Dias and Noel ran to the Shingo Forest.
******
Dias and Noel arrived at the scene. The Synard is being brutally assaulted by monsters.
"Huh? Monsters at this time?" Noel asked questioningly.
"Let's not think about that now, we got to help her!"
Dias charged at the attacking monsters. Swinging his sword and got their attention.
"Quickly! Fly up into the air!" Dias shouted to the Synard. She acknowledged Dias' command and flew up higher into the air. "Noel! Cast Earthquake!"
After chanting for a few seconds, "Earthquake!" A massive golem appeared and slammed the earth around them. The massive shaking of the earth killed most of the monsters. But one of the monsters had leapt into the air and headed towards where Dias was standing, going for the kill. Dias, of course, noticed that feat. As the monster was about to slash Dias, with a skillful thrust of his sword, he killed the monster instantly.
"A force to be reckoned with," Noel uttered without thinking.
"I heard that."
"Oh, sorry."
Dias turned towards the Synard. "Are you alright?"
The Synard yelped and nodded.
"Funny? I can understand what she's saying."
"Oh, really?" Noel asked suspiciously.
"She is also saying that her two babies are missing."
"Oh. WHAT? We got to help her look for them."
"That is what I was thinking. Come on!"
Dias and Noel were leading with the Synard following close behind. She was calling out for her babies.
"Where could they be?" Noel was getting worried.
"Why so anxious?" Dias asked.
"Those two are still small, they can't survive on their own yet, even on Expel."
"Heck. Why am I always sounding like I don't care?" Dias uttered to himself.
"There! I can hear them!" Noel suddenly shouted, snapping Dias out of his thoughts.
"Where?"
The mother Synard just picked Dias and Noel up onto her back and started flying towards the calls.
"The babies! They are being taken away by the monsters!" Noel cried, pointing.
Dias noticed it and stood up on the back of the Synard. "What are you doing?" Noel asked, wide eyed.
Without replying, Dias jumped off the Synard. "Firebird Shockwave!"
Focusing his psychic fighting powers, Dias created a firebird with powerful fire abilities and crashed towards the monsters. Fortunately, the monsters were somehow weak towards fire and that move had killed them with one blow.
"Why the heck did you use that move?" Noel started shouting at Dias. "It could have killed the babies!"
"Look, Noel, I know how to control my psychic powers. That is why I used it to create killer moves in the first place."
"But the babies……" Noel turned around and saw the babies were fine. "But I saw the killer move hit them……"
"I can control what the move targets, that is why my psychic abilities are so strong," Dias explained. "I wonder if the Holy Sword Farewell had anything to do with it……"
The Synard started towards Dias. "Thank You," she said and wanted to give Dias something, which looks like a whistle.
"Really, I don't want to take anything from you. A simple thanks is enough."
"Dias, take it," Noel started to speak at the events that followed. "That whistle is a special relic which wild Synards possess. They give it to someone whom it thinks is a worthy person to look after it well. It is used to summon the Synard to which the whistle belongs and can come to the user in times of need."
"Oh, and she is giving it to me?"
"As a way of saying thanks to you."
"I'm beat. Better get back and get some shuteye."
The Synard took them home.
