Dazer groaned as he pushed a large piece of sheet metal off of himself. He looked around at the now ruined Filmsphere and growled, "This sucks..."
Dark Knight retorted, kicking the remains of a security generator off of herself, "No shit..."
Zeikfried pushed a pillar back into place and spoke, "Well...I suggest that we retaliate with full force. An airstrike, maybe." Dark Knight grinned. She liked the sound of that.
As Chakrum limped into the room, Dark Knight asked, grinning, "How long do you think it will take them to figure it out?"
Dazer asked, rubbing his throbbing head, "What? That we're still alive?"
"No. That Shocks sabbotaged their airship." Chakrum grinned.
He spoke, "Zey thought zat zey hid it perfectly! But wait until zey try to land!!"
Boomerang looked out of the Gull Wing's window again. Rosetta was clearly visible and he figured that the best place to land would be the small plane between the town and the forest to the southeast. "Um...okay...let's see if I remember this right..." he muttered to himself, flipping a few switches and slowly making the Gull Wing descend.
Suddenly, there was a loud explosion to his right. Boomerang looked at the right wing and was horrified to see that it was on fire. He desperately flipped several switches to bring down the landing gear, but the airship would not respond. "Oh shit!!" he yelled. He quickly pulled the stick back, causing the airship to fly back upwards. Boomerang then tried the landing gear again, but, still, it would not respond. "Oh, not fair!!" he cursed, "Not fucking FAIR!!!!"
Boomerang's heart was racing as the airship dove toward the desert east of Rosetta. He jerked the control stick toward himself, slowing the descent a little. As the Gull Wing hit the sand, the right wing's fire was put out, but Boomerang was not aware of this.
He had hit his head on something when the Gull Wing had crashed into the sand. He was unconscious.
"Hmm..." Zed thought aloud. He turned around and yelled over to Bartholomew who was steering the Sweet Candy in the direction of Adlehyde, "Turn around! Boomer isn't going to Adlehyde!!"
Cecilia asked, "How do you know?"
Zed answered, "He turned the airship in the direction of Rosetta. I don't know why he's going there, but that's the direction that he was flying."
Bartholomew just shrugged and turned the Sweet Candy around. Zed yawned, rubbing his still sore shoulder and chest. He was still hurting all over from demorphing, but he was trying his best not to show it. Rudy walked up behind him and asked, "Are you okay? I mean...I saw what Dazer did to you..."
"Huh?" Zed responded, "Uh, yeah...I'm fine...just a little sore, that's all." He looked back over the ocean in the direction of Rosetta. He could not help but get a strange feeling that something had happened to Boomerang, and it caused a large lump to form in the back of his throat.
Even though they never acted like it, Boomerang was the only one of the demons whom Zed could ever get along with. The two had even considered each other to be brothers. Before the first war with the humans and the Elws, Zed and Boomerang had learned to look out for one another.
Sure, Boomerang was rough with Zed like when they were at Adlehyde, but the two actually did worry about each other, which was the main reason why Zed was so uneasy as he looked in the direction of Rosetta. The incident in Adlehyde before Boomerang had begun helping the Dream Chasers was only the third or forth time that the two demons had ever fought each other.
Rudy asked, breaking through the demon's thoughts, "Are you sure you're alright?"
Zed muttered, as if he had not heard the Holmcross, "I have the worst feeling that something happened to Boomer..."
Zeikfried looked at the "airstrike army" and shook his head, groaning. "I can't believe that these wusses are the only fliers still alive from the destruction of the Filmsphere...this sucks..."
The "airstrike army" consisted of Sphinxes, Ukobacks, Harpies, Sirens, and Flurities. Dazer just shrugged and went back sharpening his sword. Dark Knight yawned and reloaded her Single Shot ARM. Chakrum, who was across the room away from the monsters and the other three demons, pressed all of his weight onto his left leg to test its strength. He immediately regretted doing so and balanced himself on his crutch again.
Zeikfried just rubbed his head under his helmet which hid his face and spoke to the "airstrike army", "Your target is Adlehyde. You should make it there by tomorrow morning. Don't attack until the afternoon. I want to make sure that Cecilia is there to witness the destruction of her precious kingdom again."
Dazer looked at a particular Flurity and said, "You! Make sure you capture a young, human girl. Any girl will do, just make sure it's a young one. Capture her and bring her back here, but don't harm her. I have an idea." The Flurity growled in acknowledgement. With that, the "airstrike army" left the remains of the Filmsphere and took to the air, soaring into the coming night.
Boomerang groaned and slowly opened his eyes, only to see a young girl looking down at him. The demon cried out in surprise more than fear. The girl, however, screamed in fear, leapt away from Boomerang, and dove behind a few pots. Boomerang looked at his surroundings. He was lying on the floor in a small house. Several pots decorated the house, each of which were filled with beautiful flowers.
Boomerang looked back at the girl who was still cowering behind the pots. One look at her immediately told Boomerang why she was afraid of him. Mostly, she looked like a human girl about the age of twelve except for one fact. She had long furry ears.
An Elw... Boomerang's mind stated as he climbed to his feet. The Elw girl was practically shivering with fear behind the pots, but Boomerang ignored her as he searched the room with his eyes. He never did hunt down the Elws, anyway. He hunted down the Guardians, but that did not mean that the girl could not be afraid of him. Boomerang looked down at himself to see that the wound on his abdomen had been bandaged up, obviously by the Elw girl.
As Boomerang looked around the room, he noticed his helmet lying on a small table. Well...she's definitely confused now! Boomerang thought with a grin, She doesn't know if I'm a demon or a human.
As if on cue, the Elw girl asked, her questions coming out in one slurred sentence, "Who are you?! How come you look like a human when you're a demon?! Why do you look like a human?! What do you want?!?!"
Boomerang turned to her and answered, laughing slightly at her hysterics, "It's okay! I'm not going to hurt you. I just need to find help for my friend. Where is she?"
The girl looked at him, fear still shining in her eyes. Boomerang could not blame her. After all, the demons had been the Elws' worst enemies, and probably still were to some.
The girl responded, "Wh-Which demon are you?" Boomerang told her his name. "Wh-Why do you care what happens to the other creature? I was taught that demons did not care about anyone or anything."
Boomerang replied, "Not all of us are like that. Now, where is my friend?"
The Elw girl slowly made her way out from behind the pots, always keeping an eye on Boomerang as she walked toward a door on one side of the room. She opened the door, looked inside, and immediately closed the door again, her eyes wide. She muttered, "Oops..."
"‘Oops'?! What's that supposed to mean?! What do you mean ‘oops'?!?!" Boomerang demanded.
"She's...She's...not there anymore!" the girl replied. Boomerang shoved her out of his way and stormed into the room. Sure enough, Noble Knight was nowhere to be seen.
Suddenly, a cry came from behind the demon and something leapt onto his back. "ACK!" he cried out, throwing whoever, or whatever, had ambushed him across the room.
"OW!!" came a familiar voice as the creature who had ambushed Boomerang hit the wall and dropped to the floor with a sickening thud. Boomerang winced after getting a good look at the creature, immediately regretting having thrown her across the room, instantly recognizing her despite the fact that she was not wearing her armor. Her arm was bandaged up, revealing that the Elw girl had taken care of both of them.
Noble Knight did not feel any lasting damage, obviously, for she almost immediately leapt back to her feet and back flipped across the room back toward Boomerang. Upon getting to him, Noble Knight gave him a roundhouse kick to the gut and a right cross.
The truth instantly dawned on Boomerang. She doesn't recognize me! It's because I'm not wearing my helmet. "Noble Knight, it's me!!" he yelled. All he could do was defend against her attacks, for he did not want to hurt her anymore than he already had by throwing her across the room. "Noble Knight, it's me, Boomerang!!"
Noble Knight stopped right in the middle of a right cross and looked at him, the fire of determination that had been shining in her eyes slowly disappearing and her cat-like ears straightening up. "Boomerang?" The demon nodded. Noble Knight shrieked, "Gods above!! I am so sorry!!"
Boomerang tried his best not to shudder as the now familiar chill ran down his spine again. "It's alright," he responded with a slight smile, "Are you okay? How are you feeling?"
Noble Knight answered, rubbing her head, "My arm hurts. So does my head." Meanwhile, her mind was screaming as she tried to keep herself from grinning, Boomerang is a FOX!!!! (Aspect, eat yer heart out!! >=D )
The two of them looked back to the entrance of the room to see the Elw girl standing in the doorway, fear and confusion still shining in her eyes. Noble Knight started to ask something when there was a knocking sound on the front door of the house. The Elw girl immediately rushed to the door and opened it. Boomerang and Noble Knight followed her more slowly and were both slightly relieved to see Cecilia and the other Dream Chasers entering the building.
A soaking wet Seph bounded over to Noble Knight, stopping just long enough to shake the water off onto her and Boomerang. "HEY!!" they both yelled.
Elmina ran over to Noble Knight and spoke, "NK! You're alright! We found the Gull Wing and we thought--who the hell are you?!" Boomerang grinned. He loved confusing people by making them think that he was a human, even though Zeikfried, Belselk, and Alhazad always criticized him about it.
Zed walked over to Boomerang and spoke, "Boomer! Are you okay. I had the worst feeling that something happened."
Boomerang responded, picking up his helmet from the small table across the room, "Yeah, I'm fine. I've just got a headache, that's all." Meanwhile, Jack, Cecilia, Elmina, Rudy, and even Jane's jaws had dropped.
Jack stuttered, "B-Boomerang looks exactly like...a human?!" Boomerang grinned and bowed after putting his helmet back on. Zed himself had told Boomerang just a few nights ago that the Dream Chasers would not criticize him about his resemblance to humans, but Boomerang had not believed him. Now, Boomerang was especially pleased with their shock. Why, he did not know. He just hoped that Zed was right. Boomerang had gotten into way too many fights with Zeikfried, Belselk, and Alhazad because of their teasing. One time he had actually almost succeeded in killing Belselk. Lucied bolted past the five Dream Chasers and pounced on Boomerang, barking like a puppy and breaking Boomerang's thoughts. "AAAACK!!!!!" Boomerang yelped, "GET OFF OF ME, YOU MUTT!!!!!!"
Cecilia laughed at them and then turned back to the Elw girl. She said, "Thanks for taking care of them, Mariel."
Mariel asked, her confusion finally growing stronger than her fear, "Th-The demon's...on your side?!" Cecilia and Rudy nodded. Mariel had met Zed just two years ago which was why she did not go into hysterics when he had entered her home.
Rudy yawned, "Let's get back to Adlehyde, then we can figure out what to do next just in case Zeik and the clones survived the destruction of the Filmsphere." Everyone nodded and left.
The trip back to Adlehyde was a long one. Bartholomew's "motor" had malfuntioned, preventing the Sweet Candy from sailing any faster, much to Boomerang's dismay. It took all of the night and most of the day to get back to Adlehyde by boat, but they made it about the middle of the afternoon. Boomerang had stayed up all night leaning over the rail. He felt like throwing up, but he could not, for his stomach was still empty.
As they all walked away from the beach and toward Adlehyde, Zed and Boomerang stopped in their tracks, their eyes not focusing on anything as if they were consentrating on something. Noble Knight's, Seph's, and Lucied's ears pricked up. Jane turned to them and asked, "What's wrong?"
Boomerang finally looked up and said coldly, "Adlehyde's under attack." With that, he, Zed, Noble Knight, Seph, and Lucied took off running.
"Oh, my god..." Rudy and Jane spoke in unison. Once again, like it had been three years ago, Adlehyde was in ruins. Fires burned angrily in houses. People lay sprawled on the ground, either dead or dying. All sorts of flying monsters soared around the sky, assaulting the people who were not already injured.
Boomerang threw the Sabre Fang at several of the monsters while Rudy and Jane fired their Prism Laser and Rifle ARMs. Cecilia cast Flame on a few of them while Noble Knight threw fireballs. Lucied cast Purple Electric and Purple Electric Revised; Jack and Elmina attacked with their Fast Draws; and Seph cast a number of ice spells. Zed assailed a few harpies with his attacks Higi Kajin-Eisatsu and Kinjite Yasha-Ishmonjiri, causing them to fall to the ground either paralyzed, poisoned, or asleep.
A scream hit the Dream Chasers' ears, causing them all to whirl around and face Adlehyde castle. Zed's eyes widened. A Flurity was soaring away from Adlehyde castle, a small, fifteen- year-old girl with long, brown hair in its grip.
"ALICIA!!!!!!!"
