Did You Know?
Did you know that many places which we saw in the Slam Dunk anime is not just made-up but that they really exist?
Lets start with Kanagawa City. Kanagawa is a city located right in the middle of Japan's main island (Info : there are 4 main islands in Japan). Size wise, Kanagawa is approximately 60 km measuring from North to South, and around 80 km measuring from East to West. Altogether, the total area occupied by Kanagawa is as big as 2413 kmē, which is actually only 0.6% of the whole of Japan! To the North of Kanagawa is Tokyo while the Pacific Ocean lies at the South of it. The mountainous chain of Tanzawa with the volcano Hakone (which is part of the volcanic zone of Fuji) sits to the left of Kanagawa. In the center of the city, the Sagami River flows right through it.
As for Shohoku High School, believe it or not, it actually exists (I wonder do the players too? Hehe). In fact, Shohoku High is one of the most prestigious school in the city. For more information of the school, you could check out their website, and of course, it is in Japanese.
The Anime and Manga of Slam Dunk are excellent mirror images of Kanagawa City.
Now, take a look at the pictures below. Do you recognize these places? I'm sure you do...
