Harvey could hear the sound of steam hissing out of pipes as he opened his eyes. For a moment he wasn't sure where he was and then he remembered Rick and the bomb, being handcuffed. Looking around he tried to reach for the nearby wall, but his arms weren't moving. He couldn't quite figure out what the problem was. He tried to lift his head, but that wasn't moving either. As a matter of fact he couldn't move any part of his body save his eyes to scan what little of the room he could see. There was the faint sound of alarms going off and drip coming from somewhere close by, but he hadn't the faintest clue where. He groaned and then began to cough. He could still feel the pressure on his chest. It was almost as if he were glued to the cement floor. ******* Evan was frantic as he searched the building. He could hear Nash telling him to be careful as he went from room to room searching through the debris for his partner, but nothing registered as he focused on finding Harvey. The young inspector fumbled around the building from room to room shouting his partner's name, but there was no response and not a clue as to where Harvey could be. He neared a flight of stairs covered with more debris. It was the only place that wasn't being checked so Evan moved towards it. He was soaked through and getting colder by the second, he hadn't even realized that he was beginning to shake and all he could think about was finding his partner. A hand touched his shoulder and he nearly fell forward onto the steps. Luckily he managed to catch himself first. "Evan? Nash wants us back outside now. This building is about to collapse." "I am not leaving Michelle. Harvey still in here." "We don't know that Evan. For all we know he could be-" She stopped herself when Evan turned to look at her. There was a coldness in his eyes and she didn't want to think what it would to him if Harvey were ...dead. Harvey couldn't be there was no other choice for Evan. He couldn't lose his partner, his best friend, not like this, not when he wasn't even there to watch his back. Evan turned away from Chen and started down the stairs. "You can't go by yourself." He put his hand out to stop her. "Leave. Nash said he wanted you outside. Harvey is my partner and I'll find him." "Dammit Evan you're not going alone." Without another word he started down the steps with Michelle at his heels. ******* "Where the Hell are they?" Nash placed a hand on his head and groaned. He knew he should have gone in after him instead of sending Michelle. Not that he could have stopped Evan from trying to look some more, but at least he could have tried. "We can't reach Chen. Her radio isn't responding." Ronnie tried again to call her, but got no response. "Bridges are your people out of there yet?" The fire chief asked as he approached. "Not quite. I still have two down there. We're trying to reach them now." "You better get them out fast or there won't be anything left to get out. We have about five minutes before the building collapses, and that's only if we're lucky. It'll be days before we find them then." Nash took a deep breath and tried to calm himself. Glancing down at his watch he knew he had no choice but to go in after them. As bad as the smoke was spread through the school there was no way they'd find their way out now. With a nod to Ronnie he jogged back inside and wound his way through the halls trying to find any sign of his missing inspectors. ******* Harvey opened his eyes as he hear footsteps getting close to him. He tried to open his mouth to call for help but the weight on his chest prevented the words from being said. It was getting harder to breath and all he could see was a shadow coming across his body. Again he tried to speak, but no words came out. There was bright light and he thought for a moment he was dreaming. He wanted to reach his hands towards the light, but they still wouldn't move. "Harvey!" He was sure he heard his name being said and in a familiar voice as well, but he couldn't see who it was. "Harvey!" Another voice rang out, and Harvey was certain he knew that one also. Then they were moving away. The shadow and the light was going away. The voices sounded further and further off and Harvey was getting scared. If only he could make a sound they could find him. He tried again to speak, but it was useless. He couldn't move or speak, no one was going to find him. He was sure of it now. He could no longer hear the voices and the pressure on his chest was beginning to feel ten times worse. He gasped in a breath as the weight pressed on him. His coughing started again and a sense of dread came over him. His eyes began to close and he saw a light. This time he felt as though he was going towards it. He was almost certain he reached out to it, but then he opened his eyes and saw Evan's face staring back at him. "It's okay buddy. I gotcha. We're gonna get you outta here Harv." Evan wiped at Harvey's forehead and then surveyed the wreckage surrounding them. "We have to get this off of him Evan." Michelle pointed to the huge section of wall and tubing that was coving Harvey's torso and legs. "Let's try and lift it." They both stood and tried to move it, but it didn't budge. "Damn!" "Take it easy Evan. There has to be something around here we can use to move this." She scanned the room, but there was nothing that she could see that was going to help them. ******* The sprinklers had stopped but the floor was still wet and he slid around until he reached the staircase. He shouted out, but no one responded. Hoping that this was the way they had gone Nash started down the stairs. Another glance at his watch and Nash knew he had to hurry. He made his away down the steps and shouted again. This time he could hear Michelle call back. "Michelle!" "Nash! We`re over here!" He moved closer to the voice but stopped when he felt the ground begin to shake. He shouted out once the shaking ceased, but got no response, He started in the direction he had heard Michelle's voice coming from and stopped cold when he saw a pile a debris blocking the way. |
