All the SIU was in a rush to find the devices. Everyone had their orders, and they were all determined to end this as soon as possible, and with as little casualties as possible. No one wanted to see a repeat of the first bomb. The ten people that had been injured and five that had been killed was still tearing at them, now adding the six from the second, the toll was rising. It seemed as though they were no closer to stopping this madman than they had been to start with. He was toying with them, and it was beginning to frustrate everyone. As they scrambled to find the locations from the video, Nash began to worry that they might not find them in time. Staring at his watch as he sat in the Cuda, he waited for Joe to join him so they could check out the sight close to his apartment. The drive was a quiet one, and as they took the elevator to his loft, it was evident that they were both equally worried about the situation. "Ok let's see...the view was from right here." Nash said as he pointed out to the balcony. As he looked out he noticed a small wire extending over the railing above him. He was about to grab it when his phone rang. He walked inside to answer it."Nash." He said. "Now, now Inspector that's not nice to play with other people's things." The disguised voice said to him. "What kind of game are you playing Bubba?!" "Quiet yourself Nash. You're going to run out of time if you keep yelling at me. Now don't touch the wire, or I'll be forced to set the bomb off a bit early." Nash heard the click before he could respond. "Dammit! This guy is really starting to piss me off!" Angrily he put down the phone and went back to the balcony. "We're gonna get him. It is just a matter of time." Joe said as Nash came back to the balcony. "Yeah, and in the mean time more people may have to die. How many more have to die while we try to stop this psycho!" Nash took a swing at the glass door and watched as it shattered. "Easy Nashman!" Joe turned and checked Nash's hand. "Let's focus on the problem at hand...finding this bomb." "Yeah, you're right." Nash patted his friend on the back as he began to look across the way. "Which one would you say it was?" Joe asked as he leaned over the terrace. "From the angle of the video, it has to be that one on the fourth floor. Let's get over there and see what we can find out." *** Evan and Harvey were making their way down town to find the second device, and both were praying they were all going to get there in time. They had both seen first hand the chaos that the first bomb had caused, and that was the last thing they wanted. The images of the three children he pulled from the wreckage still haunted Harvey. He glanced at his nervous partner as he stopped at the red light. Nervously he tapped at the wheel at stared at the light. At the moment everything was going as they had hoped, and they were all close to finding their targets. Nash had called, and then Michelle had called on her way to Presidio, and things seemed to be going smoothly, but Evan had a feeling things were about to change. As they approached an area similar to that in the video, Harvey frowned. "This can't be the place." He said as Evan parked the truck. "What do you mean? It looks like the place." "No, look at that building there. In the video the building was a different color." Evan turned the key and started to back out when Harvey told him to stop, and nearly jumped out of the truck. "Man, I can't believe it!" He yelled as he opened the door and got out. "Harv, man you want to enlighten me here?" His confused partner asked. Harvey continued to mumble to himself for a moment until Evan slapped him on the back to get him to tell him what was going on. Rapidly Harvey grabbed the laptop out of the truck and turned it on. He pulled up a list of files. "It can't be that simple?!" He muttered. "Partner what in the Hell are you talking about?" "Look at this Evan." Harvey turned the screen towards Evan and watched as his partner's face contorted a bit in even more confusion. "Yeah, it is a map of the city...So what?" "No! Look at the dots on the map. Those are the sites of the last two bombings, and the sites of the three areas where the devices are now." "Man! That seems too easy." Evan looked at Harvey and they both looked up at the building before them. Quickly he picked up the phone and called Nash, and then Michelle. *** There was a small wooden table near the door of the tiny room, as Rick Marshall sat staring at a newspaper clipping from a few weeks before. The anger in him began to rise, as he saw the smiling face of Nash Bridges holding a medal up for all to see. He wanted to kill Nash for all the trouble he had caused him. He wanted him to pay for losing everything that mattered to him. Almost a month ago Nash and his team at the SIU had received medals for their efforts to take down an international money laundering operation. In the process of their takedown, they had destroyed Rick's entire life. He lost everything he had, including his respect, and nearly his life. The families back in Jersey would never look at him the same, and his contacts in Miami wanted him dead. As he eyed the materials on the small table, he began to laugh. He planned this all so perfectly. Nash and his lackeys would never no what hit them, and he'd be able to feel the sweet sensation of revenge. "They'll never make it to all the devices in time" he thought to himself. "Even they aren't smart enough to figure it out." He took another look at the monitors he had set up, and he was fuming when he saw that the three teams were already closing in on his creations. A few moments later he received a phone call. "Mr. Marshall, they're getting closer...what are we gonna do?" The nervous voice asked him, as he began to grind his teeth."Don't worry about it. I told you that I'd take care of things, and I'll do just that.""But what about Leek. He's gonna figure this all out. He knows who we are! It isn't going to take him much longer to figure out that it is us planting these bombs, if he hasn't figured it out yet."Marshall was boiling at this point as he held his breath a moment before responding. "Leek isn't a problem yet, but I'll take care of him before he becomes one. You just take care of those devices, and I'll deal with the SIU. Trust me Martin. I haven't let you down yet, have I?" "No sir." Marshall noticed him starting to calm down, so he also calmed himself. "What are you going to do?" He asked. "I said don't worry about that. I'll deal with this in my own way." With that they hung up and Marshall went back to his monitors. It was obvious one of them was figuring things out a bit too quickly, so he decided to take matters into his own hands. "They may get to the devices, but not even Leek is smart enough to disarm them, and if by some chance he does, I'll stop them all one way or another. I'm having too much fun for anyone to spoil it just yet," he said to himself as he headed out the door. * * * |
