What is True Beauty? | ||||||
Last month (this is written 12-22-00), someone said something that really hurt me. Basically, the person said that I was not beautiful to him (this is my ex-fiance). So, for the past month, I have been getting beat up by the devil about my beauty (or lack of!). I was miserable! Finally, as I was praying about the issue once again yesterday, God said "Why don't you go to My Word and see what I have to say about beauty???" And so I did, and here are some of the things that I found. I think that it is so encouraging to see how God sees beauty, and to have a Biblical view of beauty instead of a worldly view, because in the worldly view I do not measure up, but in the Biblical view, I can achieve bombshell status!!! So I just had to share!!! (All Scripture is KJV unless otherwise stated!) I will become beautiful "He hath made everything beautiful in His time..." Ecclesiastes 3:11a Outward beauty does not last, but He desires women to fear, worship, and praise Him "Charm can be deceptive and beauty doesn't last, but a woman who fears and reverences God shall be greatly praised!" Proverbs 31:30 (Living Bible) An inwardly beautiful woman is worth far more than precious stones "A capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman--who is he who can find her? She is worth more than precious jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls." Proverbs 31:10 (Amplified) In the entire description of the ideal wife, her outward beauty is NEVER mentioned; instead, her inward beauty is continually praised. Proverbs 31:10-31 A virtuous woman brings joy to her husband "A good wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones." Proverbs 12:4 (NSRV) A kind wife is a gift to a man from God Himself "A father can give his sons homes and riches, but only the Lord can give them understanding wives." Proverbs 19:14 (Living Bible) Mankind may look on my outward appearance, but God looks at my inward beauty "The Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7 Yet, I am beautiful! He will beautify me with His salvation "For the Lord taketh pleasure in His people: He will beautify the meek with salvation." Psalm 149:4 True beauty is found on the inside! "Don't be concerned about the outward beauty that depends on jewelry, or beautiful clothes, or hair arrangement. Be beautiful inside, in your hearts, with the lasting charm of a gentle and quiet spirit which is so precious to God. That kind of deep beauty was seen in the saintly women of old, who trusted God and fitted in with their husbands' plans." 1 Peter 3:3-5 (Living Bible) I am God's own craftmanship and artwork! "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) God formed me and knew me while I was still unborn! "You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body, and knit them together in my mother's womb. Thank You for making me so wonderfully complex! It is amazing to think about. Your workmanship is marvelous--and how well I know it! You were there while I was being formed in utter seclusion! You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe. Every day was recorded in Your Book! How precious it is, Lord, to realize that You are thinking about me constantly! I can't even count how many times a day Your thoughts turn towards me. And when I waken in the morning, You are still thinking of me!" Psalm 139:13-18 (Living Bible) God loves me dearly! "God showed how much He loved us by sending His only Son into this wicked world to bring to us eternal life through His death. In this act we see what real love is: it is not our love for God, but His love for us when He sent His Son to satisfy God's anger against our sins...We know how much God loves us because we have felt His love and because we believe Him when He tells us that He loves us dearly. God is love, and anyone who lives in love is living with God and God is living in him. And as we live with Christ, our love grows more perfect and complete; so we will not be ashamed and embarrassed at the day of judgment, but can face Him with confidence and joy, because He loves us and we love Him too!" 1 John 4:9-10, 4:16-17 (Living Bible) |
