Barbados 2007

The Meltham jetset have just returned from their latest international adventure. The return visit to Barbados and the Coconut Court was just as good, if not better than 4 years ago. Wendy even organised an earthquake (7.3) as part of the entertainment. Unfortunatly this went over Liz's head a bit, she was having an afternoon snooze and thought she'd had an encounter with a Baijan bed shacking bear.( Not sure if it was the sun or the Banks or a bit of both ).

We had competitors from Meltham AC and Holmfirth Harriers competing in three events, the Run Barbados half marathon and 10k,and the Coconut Court Banks Beer marathon. Unfortunatly the marathon had to be suspended at one point due to some of the runners impressive liquid replacment programs. Supplies were being used up faster than the organisers could re stock.

It has not been confirmed officialy, but we think"2 Banks Gled"has set a new P.B.

Top performance was Matthew Pierson in the half marathon, finishing in 5th place with a time of 1 h 17 mins. The 10k started at 4.00pm on the saturday when the teperature was around 30 degrees. This along with the humidity made it tough going. For more times see the tables below.

There was always a good turnout for the early morning runs around the race course. The best part of it though was getting back to the hotel beach and going straight into the sea. Running round the catch and jumping into Blackmoorfoot res just would not be the same.

The volley ball games had to be suspended after the first match due to the number of injuries. Graham Sykes had another case of "Barbados toe", and Tim Cock limped off the court with a thigh strain that he said could seriusly affect his trips to the bar.

The 10K race.
