The Black Strap Molasses Cake Recipe

Ingredients

1/2 Cup Shortening

 1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar

1 Egg, Beaten

1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda

1/2 Teaspoon Salt

2 1/2 Cup Flour

1 Cup Black Strap Molasses

1 Cup Hot Water

Instructions

Cream the Shortening and Sugar together and then blend in the beaten Egg.

Mix the dry ingredients (Flour, Baking Soda, and Salt) and set the mixture aside.

Combine the Molasses and Hot Water, melting the former into the later.

Alternately add the dry and wet mixtures to the Shortening and Sugar.

Blend all Ingredients well, until the batter is smooth.

Pour into a greased and floured Turks Head or Bundt pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 60 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

The top of the cake can be garnished with powdered sugar.
