Movie Review: The Core
11/1/05
Draft 4
The Core a movie made in 2003 directed by Jon Amiel is one of my
favorite movies. It is a science-fiction movie with a romantic twist.
In The Core the Earth’s core is not rotating right so a group
of leaders specializing in science and technology have to go down in a
ship set off a chain of nuclear bombs to fix the rotation of the core
and make it back to the surface. Since the core is not rotating right,
32 people drop dead, a flock of pigeons don’t know where they
are going and fly in to everything in their path and a very strange
lightning storm wipes the coliseum(in Italy) right off the map. Through
he struggle of going to the center of the Earth, eight people went down
in the ship but only two made it back up to the top. The crew learns
many interesting things, like that the ship that they are in can talk
to the whales and they learn things about each other.
The characters are believable because you know that the jobs they have
are real. You would believe a college science teacher going on a
mission to the center of the Earth. Some of the great characters were
Hilary Swank, Aaron Eckhart, and DJ Quals. The movie itself is very
believable even though they use a lot of computer graphics in the
making of the movie. It is really neat how they show what they think is
the center of the Earth. This movie is believable because everything in
it could happen sometime in the future.
Characters are a really big part of the movie because they create a
strong bond between themselves. There is romance between two of the
main characters, but it is for you to find out who those people are.
The actors were good because they fit the parts really well. One of the
important things in the movie is when Maj. Rebecca Childs learns that
you can’t be a strong leader unless you have lost at
something or lost someone.
This movie has a lot of special effects which makes the movie very
interesting seeing what it could be like in the Earth’s core.
The music is also very suspenseful, which makes you more involved in
the movie.
I liked this movie because it was very exciting and suspenseful. It was
very touching at the end. When I was watching the movie with my friends
we were all so freaked out at some parts that we were hugging each
other trying to not see what happened. We ended up seeing it all
anyway. It was too exciting not to! It was so amazing how one of the
actors, DJ Qualls looked exactly like Tobey Maguire. I liked the
science-fiction part of the movie because everything looked so real.
Also, I liked how the music tied in with everything. There was always
music in the background. If it was a touching moment, the music was
peaceful and soft, but if it was a scary or thrilling part the music
would get really exciting. The visuals were supereminent and the actors
were great at their roles. You wouldn’t even think it was a
movie if you saw it! In my opinion, I thought that it had happened and
we were seeing the playback. Even though it was a little breath-taking
at moments, it was a wonderful movie and I would recommend it to anyone
who likes adventurous science-fiction movies.
