High jinx on the high seas!
If the leaves are falling and frost is in the air, you can be certain that the Cambridge-Isanti High School Theater Department is filled with activity! Literally, anything goes this season as the CIHS thespians prepare to present “Anything Goes” this November11 &12 and 17 thru 20 at the Richard G. Hardy Performing Arts Center. Director and Choreographer Aaron Knudsvig has been working with the students since last February to bring you all the high stepping action of this popular Broadway musical. Acting Director Bruce Danielson and Music Director Frank Wells each add their individual expertise to complete the command of this Autumn’s “Delovely” comical cruise. The three directors are also very excited at the addition of Carol Hazard as Production Manager. Katie Schunk and Kyla Wilkes lead the cast as Student Directors this season.
The tap shoes of Billy Wilder, our handsome romantic lead are filled by Junior BJ Elvendahl. Elvendahl has several years of dance training under his belt and was seen as the love struck Ambrose in last year’s “Hello Dolly”. Delightfully torn between two gentlemen is senior Kelli Nelson in the role of Hope. Nelson was a member of the “All State” Choir as a junior and has performed in several CIHS and Summer Youth Theater productions including the role of Eulalie Mackenie Shinn is Music Man Jr. Page Osborne, a senior, takes on the part of Reno, a Broadway star. She fills out a role she hinted at in “Hello Dolly” where she performed the part of Ernestina . Osborne is a two year member of the “All State” Choir and will blow you away with her performance of “Blow, Gabriel, Blow”. Senior Nate Volker shines in his role as Evelyn. Engaged to Hope and in love with Reno, he will entertain with his unique ability to become this oddball character. Last season’s joyful leap in “Hello Dolly” as the Maitre D was aG;²
Senior Christopher Nordin finishes his high school career in the role of Ling opposite junior AJ Lamb’s Ching. Nordin played Corneilous in “Hello Dolly” and Enjoras in 2004's production of “Les Miserables”. Lamb earned All Conference Honorable mention honors last year in the One Act Production of “All in the Timing”. Also earning All Conference Honorable mention honors in “All in the Timing” is this year’s Purser, Bryan Wells, sophomore. Seniors Jonas Hanson and Marcus Bjorklund take on the parts of the Bishop and the Sea Captain. Both have been involved with theater for their four years of high school and began their careers in the Summer Youth Theater. Reno’s six dancing angels are played by seniors Brittany Attendorf, Angie Brody, Ashley Strohmayer, April Thompson, junior Kelli Tischer,, and sophomore Kjerstin Williams.
The cruise ship would not be complete without a legion of sailors and gentlemen passengers performed by junior Jonathan Sherry, sophomores Josh Lehn, Anthony Oliver, Thomas Opatz, Joe Palmer and freshmen Andrew Buckholtz, Trevor Maloney and Grant Volker. The festive atmosphere on the ship is captured by numerous ladies dress is splendid attire including seniors Annica Ahlstrom, Rebekah Benjamin, Allison Immel, juniors Ashley Boettcher, Natalie Hanck, Lindsey Houle, Brittany Keough, Malou Rodriguez, sophomores Cara Anderson, Megan Anderson, Rachel Cupps, Anna Hazard, Tricia Miller, Dana Murray, Manashi Oslund, Amanda Saxton, Monika Shimko, Erin Shogren and finally freshmen Rebecca Gray, Samantha Hanck, Robin Hardy, Lori Miller, Jessie Nesbit, Kara Nienow, Cassandra Olson, and Dakota-Rae Westveer.
With classic songs like “You’re the Top” and “Friendship” and great dance numbers such as “Heaven Hop” “Anything Goes” is sure to be among the favorite Musical productions of Cambridge-Isanti High School. Performing Nov 11-12 and Nov 17-20 at the Richard G. Hardy Performing Arts Center. Other events hosted by the Stage Brigade Booster Club to be held in union with the Musical are Alumni Night on Saturday Nov 12th and Pre-Show Dinner Cruise on Saturday, Nov 19th. Dinner buffet includes a salad bar, turkey dinner with all the trimmings (real mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, 2 vegetables, stuffing, gravy, rolls, cranberries, and more), beverage and your choice from the dessert table.
