Hello Elizabeth
I have just found your web page and was interested to see your Maughans arriving in Australia on the Geelong, my ancestor was a George Maughan who went to Australia in the same year on the Serampore October 1852 he was only there for a year before he died, he was the brother of my third great grandfather Thomas Maughan who was born in 1813 and died in 1849 Their parents were John Maughan and Mary Moses, they farmed the Abbey farm at Lanercost in Cumberland. Do you know if there is any connection between our families, I thought they may be cousins, any information would be appreciated
Thanks Janet Neary

The reply is

You can order it on-line using credit cards from http://www.maxi.com.au/ The certificate you want to order is year 1854 Reg No. 1641

The index shows George MANGHAN but the Geelong Cemeteries index shows George MAUGHAN. He was 35 years old and born in Cumberland, parents unknown.
