John Laurio Platt born in 1782 in Nottingham, England John Platt joined the Navy when he was nineteen and retired thirteen years later. He married Rosanne Dutton and sailed to Australia with his wife and young family - Frederick William, Robert and Jane - on the Providence in 1822. Some convicts assigned to him in those early years were Edward Chapman who arrived on the Morley and by May 1822 had been assigned to Platt; Samuel Chapman who arrived in the Neptune in 1818 and was to die in Newcastle in 1836, William Vallance who arrived on the Adamant in 1821 and was assigned to John Laurio Platt in 1825 after first being assigned to Alexander Livingstone;
