Katse and the Ninja Tai

(With apologies to Mary Howitt's "The Spider and the Fly")

"Will you try destroy my mecha?" said Katse to the Ninja tai;
"'Tis the fastest, best armed mecha that has ever graced the sky.
You may never understand just how it stays up in the air,
But if you are so foolish as to hunt it then please dare."
"Oh no, no," said the ninja tai; "the future's very plain,
For surely you must know by now we'll shoot you down again."

"But don't you find you're broken down with fighting all the while.
Why don't you take a rest instead?" said Katse with a smile.
"There's no way you can defeat it; I've armoured every fin,
And if you try to shoot it down, it'll vacuum you right in!"
"Oh no, no," said the ninja tai, "We've heard every word you've said,
But mechs never, never fly again once we have shot them dead!"

Said the cunning Katse: "Dear Gatchaman, what can I do
To prove the warm reception I'll have waiting here for you?
I have within my mecha little tanks that look like lice;
I know you can't defeat them - do you want to pay that price?"
"Oh no, no," said the ninja tai, "Katse, that will not be:
Whatever's in your mecha cannot be a match for me!"

"Oh Gatchaman!", said Berg Katse, "If you were really wise;
You'd soon believe the evidence that's here before your eyes!
I have a rack of missiles detrimental to your health;
If you come a little closer, fool, you'll not be saved by stealth."
"I thank you warmly, Katse, for the facts you give away,
Now won't you please instruct your crew to all kneel down and pray."

Katse cut communications and went pacing round his den,
For well he knew the ninjas soon might shoot him down again:
So he checked his small escape ship and made sure that it would fly,
And then he primed his mecha to receive the ninja tai;
Then sat and wondered briefly what this harbinger would bring:
"Come hither, hither, ninja tai, glide closer on your wings;
You'll find my troops here waiting; there's a price upon your head;
Don't bother putting up a fight for soon you'll all be dead!"

Alas, alas! How very soon troops saw the ninja tai,
But almost just as quickly the green goons began to cry;
The fighting team tore through the mech and also through the crew,
And all each green guard really saw was a flash of white or blue,
Before they found themselves quite dead. Then Katse saw, he'd lost
And up he jumped and ran to his escape craft rather fast;
He set his mecha to explode before he left his den -
To make certain that the ninja tai would ne'er come out again!

And now all the little children who sit and watch the show,
Must hide their eyes as the mech explodes lest tears begin to flow;
But a getaway is certain and we see our heroes fly,
And all look forward to next week's show with Katse and the ninja tai.
