PERSONAL BIOGRAPHY |
Parents, Alex Robert and Victoria Sullivan Garroway, were part of one of the few Earth colonies to succeed. They were fairly simple folk who knew the value of a hard days work on Terra Proxy. They couldn't keep their son from reading books on the wars that gripped the world before Zephram Cochran and First Contact. Young Thomas was always full of questions about his Grandfather Sullivan, a fighter pilot who flew over 120 missions and died an old man.
A hero.
Thomas grew up to catch a ride on a J-class freighter, the Savannah Belle, back to Earth where he joined Starfleet. Studying flight control, he knew it was much different than his grandfather's piloting but liked the idea of controlling a starship. It was during his studies he found a knack for engineering and an intense curiosity for how things worked.
He can be naive at times, and far too curious for his own good, but has a sharp mind that has gotten him out of his own self-made trouble before. Since wandering the corridors of that J-class freighter, he's known Starfleet is where he should be.
Thomas has a kind of tunnel-vision that kicks in during extreme situations. His focus becomes so great that he blocks out everything but the task at hand. This has lead to rather irrational and impulsive decisions (at least to him, after he fact) but has slowly learned to feed more thought into his focus.
Since graduating from the Academy, Thomas seems to have been on the fast-track to command. Due to the retirement of Captain Mendoza -- Thomas' personal role-model -- and the illness that took Commander Baines from active duty, Thomas was Starfleet's next choice as Meridian's Commanding Officer.
Meridian has become his Home and he relates to it more than most due to his growing up on a small colony to which he frequently compares starship life. He sometimes misses his old job as Helmsman, but finds the time and opportunity to fly every now and then. Due to past experiences, however, Thomas has grown a mild phobia of spiders and an dislike for combat (a sometimes necessary evil). |
