Born in 2130 to Natasha and Yuri Kravchik, it was quickly discovered Markus had a natural aptitude for maths and later on sciences as soon as he started schooling at the age of five. In 2138, at the age of eight, his parents decided to move to New Zealand in order to give Markus a better learning environment for his development. This move was made on the fact that during WWIII, New Zealand had been left unscarred during the nuclear stage of the war, meaning the country never had to go back and rebuild like some of the northern hemisphere nations had and because of this, New Zealand was a leader in several fronts, one of them being education at that time.
At school he was often called a 'geek' or a 'nerd' for the amount of time he spent simply reading up on sciences and maths, his favorites of these being warp drive physics. He graduated a whole two years earlier then others his age, completing secondary school at the age of 16 in 2146.
Markus began attended university in New Zealand at the beginning of 2147, majoring in warp drive mechanics. Being two years younger on average then others taking the same papers, Markus didn't mix socially with people while at university. This has given him a degree of independence and self direction, which has risen as a problem in his Starfleet career from time to time, namely while at the academy back on Earth.
Having finished his university course in 2150, gaining a Bachelor of Science with Warp Physics, he set his sites on Starfleet, wanting to work with the greatest minds of Earth and even Vulcan to further develop Henry Archer's warp 5 engine. His ambition in life is to construct, test and refine a working warp 7 engine. From time to time however, this goal has been given a lower priority should a smaller, or higher priority project, come to being. As soon as this is usually solved however, Markus returns to his main goal faithfully.
Since being posted on Meridian, Markus has throughly entrenched himself into the engineering department of the ship. Personally he doubts that if anything major went wrong with any of his modifications, and he wasn't there to fix it, that no one besides one Captain Lilly Palmer or Chief Richard Steele would be able to fix it.
Markus has a contact in the Vulcan fleet, a Commander Solek. Commander Solek, a fellow engineer, tracked Markus down on Risa once, and unlike other Vulcans, didn't put his work down, but instead offered a few helpful hints. The two have kept in contact since then.
He has also made several moral decisions while on Meridian, one of which did land him in trouble. Markus is an explorer first, and believes in defensive or preventative action only, not in attacking without a reason. Personally he dislikes the new growing trend of conflict in the universe. The incident was a recorded cause of insubordination or the commanding officer at the time, where he refused to do as he was commanded as the actions ordered were against his general beliefs.
This however has inspired him into researching what he can on other species as well, to better understand their points of view, and hopefully find ways to avoid conflict if possible. This however is still a very minor part of his person compared to his striving towards a Warp 7 engine.
All in all, since being posted to Meridian, Markus has grown as a person. From a quiet, blunt engineer that stayed in his little corner of engineering and ran his theoretical models, to someone who has quiet probably rebuilt a large section of the ship with Chief Steele, acted as temporary head of engineering and even survived Starfleet's first major battle since formation.
Since his posting as Chief Engineering Officer aboard Meridian, however, he has reverted somewhat back to the engineer he was. It is a conscious mission of his to not fall back into that trap. |
