Like most pilots recruited in Starfleet, Jorge was born and raised on a transport vessel. Most of his life was spent learning to fly, operate and repair the vessel his Boomer family had been a part of, the Venturer. Jorge had always enjoyed the life of a boomer, even with all the dangers it entailed. The long voyages transporting goods and people to other star systems were a great way for him to learn about the different cultures out there.
At age 20, Jorge left the family business - much to the displeasure of his parents - to join Starfleet. He fell in love with the idea of getting a chance to pilot the new, magnificent NX Class vessels. While in Starfleet, he further fell in love with the idea of exploration and getting to meet new cultures, so it further deepened his desire to be a part of Starfleet.
During his time with Starfleet, Jorge surved in various capacities as a pilot (ship and shuttle), flight controller and mechanical technician. He'd even spent some time at the Warp 5 complex working closely with the engines that would power the NX Class ships. Though he desperately wanted to be out there amoung the stars, piloting ships and exploring, Jorge decided to bide his time and learn as much as he could about the various aspects of Starfleet.
His long term goal was to command an NX Class ship of his own, someday. So, he took every opportunity to be involved in everything Starfleet was working towards. He served on a variety of Starfleet vessels in operation before the NX Class came into service - at a time before the Starfleet mandate of exploration was put in motion by the launch of the Enterprise. Jorge slowly moved up the ranks, gaining valuable experience along the way.
There was a point, though, when he'd been a full Commander for a few years that Jorge believed he would never get the chance to advance further. His relationship with Admiral Forrest was tentative, to say the least. Despite That, though, Jorge lobbied for his own vessel, citing his experience and spotless service record. Starfleet finally relented, offering him the Meridian. |
