Growing up in Tijuana is a crucible, from which many do not survive. The poverty, vice and corruption are not part of a movie, they are real, and they often strip its' inhabitants of their humanity. Luna was the seventh child born to Miguel and Luann Sol. In the large family she learned to look after herself or no one else would. Admirably she was able to resist the drugs, the drinking, but not the fighting so common in her home city. School was a refuge during the day, but the evenings and nights were anything but pleasant.
Deciding she would not become another tragic news story, Luna 'fought back' against anything in her way. She took to boxing as her way out. Female boxing never had a large following, but it did give her enough training to take care of herself, and enough clout to earn a reputation. Soon however, fighting became all too common, and Luna was all too good at it.
In a short matter of time, she found herself with two choices. The courts indicated should could join the military or go to jail for her recent assault on a police officer. The Marines reluctantly accepted her only after setting some heavy probationary terms. It was here that she flourished. Relentless and tireless, Luna took to the military life like a 'fish to water'. Her assiduous manner and extreme physical stamina helped her again get a good reputation. She progressed through the ranks despite her gender, and past. Marine life has matured her, and in an effort to better herself she applied to the Starfleet Academy. |
