In June of 1966, The Beatles put out the American release of the "Yesterday and Today Album with what was somewhat of a contravertial cover at the time.
It featured the Beatles dressed in butchers outfutrs with several baby parts strewn about them. Many have thought that this was a protest to capitol records constant "butchering" of their album releases. But this is still unconfirmed by the remaining menbers. The album was released only to radio stations, several hundred were sent out while several thousand were printerd and ready for distribution.
Due to the mass amounts of negative feedback the record company recieved,
Capitol decided to Recall the album and replace the cover with a more paletable cover. But since so many of these covers were already printed, Capitol decided to paste over the old cover with a the new artwork. This "Pasted Over" cover was then sent out by the thousands with the consumer none the wiser.
Several years later this secret was discoverd and people began "peeling" back the album cover to see if they owned the now most valuable album cover of all time. This has led to an increasingly smaller number of these covers over the years. I was recently lucky enough to acquire one of these sought after albums. I thought I'd post it here to allow someone to enjoy it with me...sort of.
