Centauran Sonnets

Invocation*

By Thomas Stel
NCE 235

With Ligure crest our fathers sealed a world,
And sealed too joy for all her misty coasts.
Vain wave-crashes were by ears made music;
Man's cunning worked fourth day sea-creations
And by empty stomachs, the seas were filled.
Builders of the floating world: Do not tire.

Long since last we praised such fiery courage,
Today we honor House Katagiri.
When the seas boiled and Heaven screamed, and the
Innocent were drowned in the depths, they were
Unmoved, though the very stars were falling;
Harder than diamond, Ligure proved by fire.
