RE: Directions for a five paragraph paper for Black History Month

Date: 2004-2005 School Year

            You are to write a five paragraph research paper, about 300 to 500 words, on a native African ethnic group.. I will supply you with the name of the group to research. The title of your paper should be as follows:

  A Brief History of the (your topic group) People

This paper should have five paragraphs organized as follows:

First paragraph: Historical setting of this group. Include information about when and where they lived and economic and natural circumstances of their recent prehistoric past. Where in Africa are they located. How does the weather and land impact their traditional society? What was and the political organization like? Describe thier native religious traditions, artistic traditions, and other information that will help the reader understand your group’s life circumstances.

Second paragraph: Your group's introduction to Christianity. How was Christianity introduced and how did Christianity effect the group you are studying?

Third paragraph: Your group's introduction to Islam. How was Islam introduced and how did Islam effect the group you are studying?

Fourth paragraph: How was your group effected by the Atlantic slave trade? Did they participate as sellers of slaves? Were they involved as victims of the slave trade? What were the years when slaves were exported from your group? Who were the slave buyers who took your group members away? Where were they taken?

Fifth paragraph: What is life like for your subject group today? How do they live. How is their life different now than it was five hundred years ago?

Your paper must include appropriate citations and a bibliography from at least ten different internet sources..
