Chapter 22
+coby's point~of~view+ +flashback+

I sat in the kitchen, my feet boosted up by a neighbor oak chair. In my lap was a notebook with the drawing of my latest victim: a little girl about the age of six. Pink, silk ribbons were plaited in her long, golden, curly hair. Her large, aquamarine eyes reflected of horror and recognition that her life was to be over before it had even begun. I sickened myself by remembering all the mortals I had feasted on and kicked myself for doing such a thing. "You worry yourself too much," said a familiar voice, "Do not do such a thing." "I cannot. It is too hard for me to forget their faces," I whispered, my head still lowered. Already I knew it was Laurel. Laurel tilted her head slightly in question and I scented it along with her faint perfume. I took my legs off the chair, stood up and walked towards my friend. She gave a small smile, her tiny fangs poking from underneath her upper lip which was covered with iridescent lipstick along with her bottom. Laurel took her time turning around and when she did, her long, violet dress flowed behind her like wind had caught it.

Then, I realized that it was four in the morning. Dawn would be coming shortly. Even though we could resist sunlight, we had to get our energy together if we were to hunt and murder all night. When I entered the bedroom, I saw Jayden already sleeping on the bed. The vermillion covers were wrapped tightly around her waist and her left arm was underneath the matching pillow. I noticed that she fell asleep in her street clothes and the ruby engagement ring I gave her was on a necklace around her ashen throat. Then, her eyes fluttered open and I almost shuddered at the haunting, icy depths of them. "Jacoby..." she whispered, smiling in content. "Yeah?" I replied, crawling on the bed. The springs creaked underneath my movement and I ran my fingers through her soft hair. Letting the ends curl around my fingertips and falling back against her slim frame.

"I hate myself, Jacoby." "Why, Jayden?" "I hate myself because I took away your life without asking permission, and that I ripped away your promising future as a musician. Fuck, I--" "Sh. Don't say you're sorry. I am glad that you are my maker and I am glad that it took me to be an immortal to finally find my other half." "You're too sweet, but seriously..." I cut off her argument with a hungry kiss and I could feel her instantly melting in my arms. She tugged gently at my hair and drew me near. Slowly, we pulled away and I chuckled in my thoughts, 'Too eager, too soon.'

'Fuck you, Coby,' smiled Jayden, before kissing me again briefly. I rested on top of her and thought back, 'No. You have that all wrong. Fuck YOU.' And our lips met again.
