Chapter 7
A wEeK lAtEr

I entered in the dark, gothic style mansion with my collar turned up. My heavy eyelids reached for sleep and I kept on fighting to keep them open. The rest of the vampire gang wouldn't be home until dawn would begin to sweep over the city and I wondered how the two new vampire spawns were doing on their first week of seducing and murder. 'They are fine for they are in good hands,' I reassured myself, shaking my disturbing thoughts out of my mind. Coby was starting to become mildly stubborn and Lee jested that he got it from me. Rubbing my throbbing neck, I denied taking off my jacket and shuffled over to the couch, hoping to sleep a few minutes before going out again. Then, the scent of Death caught my sense of smell. Not virgin Death, but primordial, FAMILIAR Death.

"Speak of the Devil," I hissed between clenched teeth, "I thought I told you that I didn't want to see you ever again." The hand that was massaging my neck was now at my side and it was tightening into a fist. The knuckles paled and could be tracked even through my own equally ashen colored hand. The vampire got up and took his time sauntering up to me. When he did, his hand immediately went through my long, sable colored hair and drew me to him harshly. My expression stayed the same, cold and ruthless towards him. "You are still beautiful, Jayden and I know that you are still the sweet girl that I knew before you were a Child of the Night." "That was before," I reminded, my voice not quite carrying the cruelty that it had before. In all truthfulness, I don't like being as evil as many immortals think. I'm just worn down from all the centuries I've lived to see and I hate myself more now that I have.

Before I knew what the Hell was happening, our lips met and we indulged in the kiss. I do not know why; it just felt right. His mouth tasted of the sweet mixture of honey and blood. What a delightful combination! Forbidden pleasures coursed through my veins again like a wicked disease and I clutched at his shoulders. We paced slowly until we drew back, our eyes still lost in our deep kiss. I raised an eyebrow as I apologized with my mind, 'I am so sorry.' He smiled innocently back, 'I missed you, Jayden. When you left, I felt a part of me go with you.' He brushed the bangs away from my eyes and curled them behind my ears. Seriousness then set in his glamorous eyes, 'Jayden, something terrible has happened. Alania has returned...'
