Gundam Wing DeathScythe 1/144

Deathscythe's design is simply and unique. Construction wise it's pretty easy to work with. The pieces were glued together first, then the usual putty and sanding followed. I painted the face before glueing the head pieces together. The rest were painted in the end. There are also a shield and a scythe, which I haven't completed yet, hence didn't include in the photos.

Looking at the pictures from the original instruction booklet, I decided to not go with the authentic colors. The original colors are perhaps ideal for the animation, but not necessary so for the 1/144 model, since it is small and lacking details. A lot of other Gundam 1/144 models also suffered from this problem, especially those form the Wing, X and G series. I decided to try a complete different set of colors. Basically, I used yellow on the legs, upper arms, and brown on where were originally dark gray. The result does bring out its military essence.

I haven't completed this model yet. The weathering job could be done better. The shield and scythe are still missing. The hands are not painted at all. I replaced one hand with a E.W. 1/144 model's hand, to make it look a little better.

From the angle of mecha design, deathscythe is kind of special even among gundams. The bat-wave shoulder, the chest, and the scythe, are all well thought during design in order to bring out its personality. The model is in good proportion, I think. Posability is a problem. The joins are too loose and obvious, but that is a well know bug for a lot of newer gundam models. This guy's head and feet are very loose. Maybe later when I painted the scythe, it can serve as a cane for this guy :-)

I will upload more photos as progress is made...
