The base probe/SE is a light car and because of this by default is is going to be nimble and lend itself very well to handling modifications. The looks of the car also scream to have exotic and stylish wheels. I took advantage of this and decided to put a set of 17 inch wheels on my 96 Probe. I chose a set of Elite Scorpio model chrome wheels. They list for 495 each. They are not cheap by any means, but there are lots of chrome rims for 300 dollars or less. They have really made a difference in the appearance and more so the handling of this car. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Lowering springs lower the car's body, but more importantly they improve the handling characteristics of a car. I chose a set of H&R springs which lowered my car 1.3 inches. This closed the gap between the tire and the fender, and really improves the look of the car. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

There are sets of springs made for the Probe 93-97, H&R, Eibach and Intrax. The Eibachs and the H&Rs lower the car 1.3 inches, while the intrax lowers the car 1.75. Springs run on average about 200 dollars for the set of 4. When one replaces the stock springs, it maybe also be a good idea to also replace the stock struts, since the stiffere springs will be harder on the struts. With these modifications I have estimated the lateral acceleration of this car to be in the area of .86-.87 over the stock .82. |
