Yn ddiweddar gwelwyd sawl erthygl yn y cyfryngau sy’n cefnogi nifer o sylwadau’r wefan hon am y ‘gloryhunters’ a’r ‘exiles’. Dechraeodd hyn i gyd gyda erthygl gan Tomi Morgan ym mhapur newydd y ‘Cambrian News’. Dilynwyd hyn gan erthygl gan ohebydd chwaraeon BBC Cymru Ian Gwyn Hughes yn ‘League of Wales News’ a rhaglen swyddogol Clwb Pel-Droed Caerfyddin. Felly efallai ei bod yn bryd i ni gymryd yn ôl ein geiriau o gondemniad am Gwyn Hughes – dyn a gondemniwyd ganddom fel un o’r cyfryngis oedd yn cefnogi tim Pêl-droed Lleogr yn Ewro 200. Ceir erthygl arall gan Mark Aizlewood, sydd hefyd yn cefnogi rhai o ddadleuon y wefan hon.
Mae’n cymharu agwedd cenedlaetholwyr sy’n galw am flwch-ticio Cymreig yn y cyfrifiad flwyddyn nesaf, gyda’i agwedd at Bêl-droed Cymru. Tra fod y bobl hyn yn ei weld yn sarhad nad yw Cymry yn cael ticio’r blwch sydd yn dweud fod ganddynt hunaniaeth Gymraeg, maent yn anwybyddu pêl-droed Cymru, gan fynd i gannu clodydd ar y penwythnosau timau fel Manchester United. Mae hefyd yn cyfeirio at y diffyg sylw a roddwyd i drydedd rownd Cwpan Cymru gan fod rownd gyntaf holl-bwysig Cwpan Lloegr yn digwydd lle roedd y “giants of football, Bournemouth, Rotheram and Bristol Rovers” yn dangos ei gwychder. Ategir hefyd ganddo ein ofnau ynglyn a cynnal rownd derfynnol Cwpan Lloegr yn Stadiwm y Mileniwm – efallai ei fod yn dda i economi Caerdydd a choffrau’r Undeb Rygbi, ond ydi o’n dda i bêl-droed Cymru?
Mae’r diffyg sylw i drydedd rownd Cwpan Cymru yn cael sylw yn erthygl Tomi Morgan. Mae’n dadlau fod y papurau Cymreig yn rhoi llawer mwy o sylw i’r ‘exiles’ ar draul Cynghriar Cymru, gan ddadlau nad oes gan y timau hyn, sy’n mwynhau tymhorau gwael, fawr o siawns i gyrraedd Cynghrair Lloegr yn y dyfodol agos. Hyd yn oed pe byddent yn cael eu dyrchafu i’r ‘Nationwide Conference’ byddai’n anodd iddynt ennill dyrchafiad pellach yn erbyn 8 tim proffesiynnol y gynghrair honno. Dyma hefyd ddadl Mark Aizelwood mewn erthygl ddiweddar. Pam felly dylai’r timau hyn gael yr holl sylw yn y cyfryngau printiedig Cymru? Cyfryngau sy’n tynnu sylw at broblemau UWIC Inter Caerdydd ond yn gyndyn i roi sylw cadarnhaol.
Mae wedyn yn rhoi ger-bron, gyda’i dafod yn sicr yn ei foch, y manteision y uno’r FAW gyda FA Lloegr, gan roi i Gaerdydd, Abertawe a Wrecsam i gystadlu am lefydd yn Ewrop trwy byramid Lloegr. Dydyw perfformiadau Tim Cenedlaethol Cymru fawr gwell na pherfformiadau clybiau Cynghriar Cymru yng Nghystadleuthau Ewrop, a byddai’n ffordd wych i gael gwared ar yr FAW sy’n ddim ond embaras. Pwyntiau teg wir sy’n haeddu canmoliaeth gan unrhyw un cefnogol i Bêl-droed Cymru.

Recently in the press there have been many articles in the press that support many of the comments made on this website on the ‘gloryhunters’ and ‘exiles’. The ball was set rolling by Tomi Morgan in an article in the ‘Cambrian News’. This was followed by an article by BBC Wales’ football reporter in the ‘League of Wales News’ and Carmarthen Town’s official programme. So it might be time for us to take back some of our words of condemnation of Gwyn Hughes – he was highlighted by us as one of the media-ites who were backing England in Euro 2000. There can also be found an article by Mark Aizlewood that backs some of our views and arguements.
He compares the views of many nationalists toward the Census tick-box for Welsh Identity with their views toward Welsh Football. While these people see this as a great slur on the Welsh nation that we cannot express our Welsh Identity, they ignore Welsh Football, singing the praises instead of the Giants of English Football, such as Manchester United. He also points toward the lack of coverage given to the Third Round of the Welsh cup, in favour of huge attention to the English Cup first round, where the “giants of football, Bournemouth, Rotherham and Bristol Rovers” showed their paces. He also agrees with our fears of staging the English Cup final in Cardiff. While this event might be good for the Cardiff economy and the coffers of the Rugby Union, is it really beneficial to Welsh Football?
The lack of attention to the third round of the Welsh Cup also draws the attention of Tomi Morgan. He argues that Welsh papers give much more attention to the ‘exiles’ at the expense of the League of Wales, arguing that these teams, all enjoying poor seasons, hardly have a chance of reaching the English League in the near future. Even if they were promoted into the ‘Nationwide Conference’ it would be close on impossible for them to gain further promotion against the League’s five full-time teams. This is also the argument of Mark Aizlewood in a recent article. Why therefore should these teams have so much attention in the Welsh printed media? Media that draws attention to the League only when it is bad news, like the problems at UWIC Inter Cardiff.
He goes on to propose, with his tongue firmly in his cheek, the advantages of unifying of the FAW and the English FA, giving to Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham the chance to compete in Europe through the English pyramid. The performances of the National Team are hardly better than the performances of LofW clubs in Europe in European Competition, and it would be a great way of getting rid of an FAW that’s nothing but an embarrassment. Fair points indeed that deserve backing of anyone supportive of Welsh Football.
