Geneva Tuesday Sept 23rd, 2003

Looking down at Geneva Our plane arrived on a fine afternoon, and we came in over the Lake Leman. We decided to stay at the Holiday Inn beside Geneva Airport, and settled in on the Fifth floor, with a room facing west with the airport and the mountains. The lake is on the eastern side.

May God smile on you today,
Elizabeth

Water Spout Swans
Tuesday we started exploring by taking the bus to the city centre. We walked across the bridge called Pont du Mont-Blanc and around the lake, to try to get a good photo of the Water Spout. These swans were resting after finding lunch.
Police Station rainbow
Geneva is on the frontier with France. The Police Station oversees the Lake. We discover the water spout and the sun are conspiring. The rainbow was an unexpected pleasure.
Rainbow Statue beside the Pont de la Coulouveniere.
We returned to the city centre to purchase Travel Cards for the week, and visit the Tourist Information Centre. We knew Fabiana and Mirko had a shop in Boulevard Carl Vogt, so decided to take the shortest route, past this statue and across the Pont de la Coulouveniere.
Looking towards the lake Public transport - tram and bus
The bridge provided another view of the water spout. Public transport is by trolley bus, tram, bus, train and boat. These are approaching, the motto here is 'Look left'.

Kebab House has cheerful staff Kebab House
We found our Lunch place, and met Mirko, husband of our 4th cousin. The damp day drove customers indoors.
Kebab House Je ne salis pas les trottoir!
Kebab House with protected seating for customers enjoying the outdoors. Nearby we found this pavement mosaic. Swiss dogs are obviously literate - sign reminds them 'Je ne salis pas les trottoir!'
