2nd Day, visiting Milan, September 2003.

Milan Thurs September 11th, 2003

Back to School Hi,
The first day of the school year is greeted with much excitement. Children are impatient when expected to pose for the annual photograph.

May God smile on you today,
Elizabeth

The Parents renew friendships The younger scholars have a different school
The Big Three are ready at the School Gate, pencils sharpened, and friends greeted after three months of the Summer Vacation. The four year olds have a different school, where they do 'Play' and learn to eat school lunches, just like the bigger members of the family.
Arch of Peace Resident lizard
Max and I continue our study of the attractions of Milan's City Centre. Today we go to the Castle and continue across Sempione Park to the Arches and their six horse chariot, and make acquaintance with one of the smallest residents. This massive sculpture was cast in a single block of bronze by the sculptor Abbondio Sangiorgio. The Arch of Peace was begun in 1807 by Luigi Cagnola to celebrate Napolian, and was completed in 1826 on the orders of Francis 1 of Austria, after Austria resumed control of this area.
Modern statue and the name plaque
Sculptured horses are delightful. This stature is very modern, with the Title at it's base.
Left side and driver's seat. Right side is for serving the tourists
Restoration work also caters for the tourists, with this specially adapted small van. Driver's seat on the left side, and tourists purchase icecreams from the right side.
Water wanders through the park Stained glass window in the museum
The Park features beautiful trees, with a pond, creek and resident ducks who find the fish a bit too big. Milan's history is displayed in the Museum at the Castle.
Castle entrance/exit and the fountain
The area dwarfs humans - Max is at the Icecream van at the left. He was wearing shorts, and we did not see many other men so dressed. The young ladies wear Mimiskirts, and the men look hot in their long pants. The fountain later had an elaborate sequence of small fountains giving us a 'water ballet' to watch.
