Milan Sunday September 14th, 2003

Helicopter Helicopter Hi,
Sunday was busy - well, we stayed at ground level, with a drive to Church. In the afternoon we watched Michael Schumacher drive 305 kms around the track at Milan, thanks to the TV. He was in front all the 75 minutes of the race. Then I tried to capture the helicopters returning the VIPs to the Airport.
Scooter with Roll-bar

Ground Vehicles were easier to catch.

This is the only motor scooter we saw, which was fitted with a Roll-bar. The owner could understand English, and said the safety bar was made in Italy.

May God smile on you today,
Elizabeth

Fire truck Sky
The helicopters proved elusive, so we decided to go for a walk, maybe if I could see them coming, I would be able to snap one. The fire engine at the intersection was an easier target.
Neighbours Fir tree
This block of flats is one of about a dozen overlooking the play ground. The handsome fir tree is feeling the lack of rain, some of the smaller trees and shrubs have given up. Milan has the highest density of population, in Europe.
Going to school Stop for a photo
School is very important. The boys are aged almost 7, 8 and 9, and in Grades 2, 3 and 4. Their bags are heavy, and they are hoping the homework will pass inspection.
School gate Path to front door
Each class of 24 students has 2 teaches who share the 8 hours from 8.30am to 4.30pm. School lunches are provided, and the boys debate if the Cooks will have a new Menu this year.
Supermarket Familiar fruits, unfamiliar names
The Supermarket is between home and school, so mothers are able to shop in smaller quantities, instead of using the car to cope with once-a-week purchases. Prices are in Euros, and hygiene is strict - all customers have to wear a plastic glove (supplied) before handling the fruit and vegetables.
Smart Car. Seats two and some shopping
This small car has the name 'Smart'. As you can see, the two-seater can slide into the smallest parking places. It's driver has to watch out for buses who may not see it. Italians drive on the right, so the driver's seat is on the left side of the car.
Advertising. Back of the bus
Max notices number plates, and advertising. He saw that the letters JCDeceaux were on posters in UK, France and Sweden, but in Italy, where there is no letter J, this is the answer. Number plates are localised, just like in Australia. The passenger bus shares the tram tracks.
