Ah, the strategy of battle...Anyway, below is the chart for testing a matchup of your pokémon's type against the type of an enemy pokémon.  Numbers in black are physical attacks and rely on the "attack" in the pokémon's stats; while numbers in green, being special attacks rely on the "special" or "special attack" in the pokémon's stats.
Now that there is a reference to the advantages and disadvantages of the match ups of pok?on type, the next step is selecting attacks and other techniques to make use of what type you use. Normal type moves
Attract--/100/15- 50% chance of preventing opponent of opposite sex from attacking
Barrage-15/85/20- attack 2-5 times consecutively in one turn
Baton Pass--/-/40- allows you to switch to another pokemon during battle
Belly Drum--/-/10- raises attack power to maximum, but lowers HP by half
Bide--/100/10- damage received is doubled and shot back at opponent for 2-3 turns
Bind-15/75/20- prevents escape, attacks opponent continuously for 2-5 turns
Body Slam-85/100/15- 30% chance of paralyzing opponent
Charm--/100/20- lowers opponent's attack level by 2
Comet Punch-18/85/15- attack 2-5 times consecutively in 1 turn
Constrict-10/100/35- 10% chance of lowering opponent's speed by 1 level
Conversion--/-/30- changes your type into one of your attack types
Conversion 2--/100/30 change your type into one that your opponent's attack is weak against
Cut-50/95/30- normal attack/ cuts down small trees
Defense Curl--/-/40- raises defense by 1 level

Egg Bomb-100/75/10- normal attack
Encore--/100/5- forces opponent to use the attack it used most recently 2-6 times
Endure--/-/10- even if hit you'll be left with at least 1 HP, rate of success drops if used continuously
Explosion-250/100/5- after using it, the pokemon who used it will faint
Extreme Speed-80/100/5- always strikes first
False Swipe-40/100/40- will always leave opponent with 1 HP
Flail--/100/15- the lower your remaining HP, the more damage caused to opponent
Flash--/70/20- lowers an opponent's accuracy 1 level/ lights up dark places
Focus Energy--/-/30- attack used following this will have a good chance for a critical hit
Foresight--/100/40- returns evasion rate to normal, allows normal and fighting type attacks to affect

Frustration--/100/20- power of attack increases based on its attachment to the trainer
Fury Attack-15/85/20- attack 2-5 times in a row in 1 turn
Fury Swipes-18/80/15- attack 2-5 times in a row in 1 turn
Glare--/75/30- paralyzes opponent
Growl--/100/40- lowers opponent's attach power by 1 level
Guillotine--/30/5- if attack hits, opponent will be defeated in one hit

Metronome--/-/10- randomly uses an attack from ALL known attacks
Milk Drink--/-/10- restores half of HP/ splits 1/5 HP of pokemon who used it among your party
Mimic--/100/10- copies opponent's attack and uses it during that battle, must attack second

Recover--/-/20- restores 1/2 of your maximum HP
Return--/100/20- power of attack increases with pokemon's attachment to you
Roar--/100/20- ends battle with wild pokemon, forces substitution in trainer battle
Safeguard--/-/25- prevents poison attacks for 5 turns, even if pokemon are substituted
Scary Face--/90/10- lowers opponent's speed by 2 levels

Selfdestruct-200/100/5- after using, the pokemon who used it will faint

Tri Attack-80/100/10- 20% chance of either freezing, burning or paralyzing an opponent

Whirlwind--/100/20- ends battles with wild pokemon, forces substitution in Trainer battles
Wrap-15/85/20- prevents escape and lets you attack continuously for 2-5 turns

Bubble-20/100/30- 10% chance of lowering opponent's speed by 1 level

Bubblebeam-65/100/20- 10% chance of lowering opponent's speed by 
1 level

Clamp-35/75/10- prevents escape, continuously attacks for 2-5 turns

Crabhammer-90/85/10- good chance for a critical hit

Hydro Pump-120/80/5- normal attack

Octazooka-65/85/10- 50% chance of lowering opponent's accuracy
by 1 level

Rain Dance--/-/5- raises water-type attack power for 5 turns

Surf-95/100/15- normal attack/can move across water

Water Gun-40/100/25- normal attack

Waterfall-80/100/15- normal attack/can move up waterfalls

Whirlpool-15/70/15- prevents escape, continuously attack for 2-5
turns/can cross over whirlpools

Zap Cannon-100/50/5- if you hit an opponent, they will always be
paralyzed

Absorb-20/100/20- restores your HP equal to half the damage caused
to opponent

Cotton Spore--/85/40- lowers opponent's speed by 2 levels

Giga Drain-60/100/5- restores your HP equal to half of the damage
caused to the opponent

Growth--/-/40- raises your special attack by 1 level

Leech Seed--/90/10- steals HP and restores your HP every turn, even
if pokemon is substituted

Mega Drain-40/100/10- restores HP equal to half of damage caused 
by opponent

Petal Dance-70/100/20- attack for 2-3 turns in a row, become confused
after it wears off

Razor Leaf-55/95/25- good chance for a critical hit

Sleep Powder--/75/15- puts opponent to sleep

Solar Beam-120/100/10- build up for one turn and attack on the next

Spore--/100/15- puts opponent to sleep

Stun Spore--/75/30- paralyzes opponent

Synthesis--/-/5- restores HP/effects depend on the time of day

Vine Whip-35/100/10- normal attack

low kick-50/90/20- 30% chance of making opponent back off

mach punch-40/100/30- will always strike first

reversal--/100/15- the lower your remaining HP, the more damage it causes

rock smash-20/100/15- 50% chance of lowering opponent's defense by 1 level/ breaks rocks

rolling kick-60/85/15- 30% chance of making opponent back off

Agility--/-/30- raises your speed by 2 levels

Amnesia--/-/20- raises your special defense by 2 levels(raises special
in RBY)

Barrier--/-/30- raises your defense by 2 levels

Confusion-50/100/25- 10% chance of confusing opponent

Dream Eater-100/100/15- while opponent is asleep, steal HP equal to 
half the damage caused

Future Sight-80/90/15- attacks opponent after 2 turns

Hypnosis--/60/20- makes opponent fall asleep

Kinesis--/80/15- lowers opponent's accuracy by 1 level

Light Screen--/-/30- special attack damage is halved for 5 turns; even
for substituted pokemon

Meditate--/-/40- raises your attack by 1 level

Mirror Coat--/100/20- attack will be second, but doubles opponent's 
SPECIAL attack power and shoots it back

Psybeam-65/100/20- 10% chance of confusing opponent

Psychic-90/100/10- 10% chance of lowering opponent's special defense
by 1 level(lowers special in RBY)

Psywave--/80/15- power changes randomly- minimum value is 1, maximum 
is your levelX1.5

Reflect--/-/20- damage from attacks is halved for 5 turns, even for 
substituted pokemon

Rest--/-/10- restores all HP, but puts you to sleep for 2 turns

Teleport--/-/20- can escape from wild pokemon/ returns you to last 
pokecenter visited

Fury Cutter-10/95/20- power of attack doubles each time until it misses

Leech Life-20/100/15- restores your GP equal to half of the damage
caused to opponent

Megaphone-120/85/10- normal attack

Pin Missle-14/85/20- attack 2 to 5 times in a row in 1 turn

Spider Web--/100/10- prevents escape/ prevents substitutions in battles

String Shot--/95/40- lowers opponent's speed by 1 level

Twineedle-25/100/20- attack twice in a row in 1 turn, 20% chance of
poisoning opponent
 

Rock type moves
Ancient Power-60/100/5- 10% chance all of your abilities
will raise 1 level

Rock Slide-75/90/10- 30% chance opponent will flinch

Rock Throw-50/90/15- normal attack

Sand Storm--/-/10- causes damage to both pokemon each 
turn; except for rock, ground, or steel types
 

Ghost type moves
Confuse Ray--/100/10- confuses opponent

Curse--/-/10- if a ghost type uses it, its HP will drop by 1/2 and the
opponent will lose HP every turn until substituted. if any other type
uses it, their speed will drop; but attack and defense will rise

Destiny Bond--/-/5- if the pokemon who uses this faints, then the 
opponent will also faint

Lick-20/100/30- 30% chance of paralyzing opponent

Night Shade--/100/15- will cause damage to the opponent that is equal
to your level, regardless of ability

Nightmare--/100/15- takes 1/5 of opponent's maximum HP; only while the
opponent is asleep

Shadow Ball-80/100/15- 20% chance of lowering opponent's special 
defense by 1 level

Spite--/100/10- lowers PP of opponent's last attack by 2 to 5 
 

Dragon type moves
Dragonrage--/100/10- causes 40 damage, regardless of ability

Dragonbreath-60/100/20- 30% chance of paralyzing opponent

Outrage-90/100/15- attack continuously for 2 to 5 turns, will become
confused after attack ends

Twister-40/100/20- 20% chance of making opponent flin
 

Dark type moves
Beat Up-10/100/10- attack opponent number of times equal
to your number of healthy pokemon

Bite-60/100/25- 30% chance of making opponent flinch
(normal type attack in RBY)

Crunch-80/100/15- 20% chance of lowering opponent's 
special defense by 1 level

Faint Attack-60/-/20- attack will always hit

Pursuit-40/100/20- damage is doubled if opponent should
withdraw a pokemon during the attack

Theif-40/100/10- if steals wild pokemon's item/ a normal
attack if pokemon is not holding an item
 

Steel type moves
Iron Tail-100/75/15- 30% chance of lowering opponent's defense 1 level

Metal Claw-50/95/35- 10% chance of raising your attack by 1 level

Steel Wing-70/90/25- 10% chance of raising your defense by 1 level
