Unown Pokédex

Within the Ruins of Alph (sounds almost like it was derived from the word alphabet), located in the Johto region dwell the strange symbol pokémon called Unown. Unlike other pokémon, Unown can be found in a number of variated shapes; looking similar to the letters of the alphabet. Their only known attack is "hidden power", but how it effects enemies can actually depend on which letter shape it is.
While at the Ruins of Alph, anyone who happens to have a radio (or radio card in their pokégear), would be able to hear strange sounds on station 13.5.  A recording of this "unown music" can be downloaded here, or in the miscellaneous page of the downloads section.
Upon catching three different variations of Unown, an upgrade to the handheld pokédex unit is added for keeping track of the unown variations. Each "letter" is accompied by a word spelled out in these shapes. When all Unown variations are captured, a machine which can make printouts of the Unown becomes available.

However, the Unown do not appear until a special event takes place. In the ruins of Alph, there are four areas that have sliding stone tiles. They are actually puzzles, which when solved, deplict four ancient pokémon. Every time a puzzle is solved, a certain number of Unown variations become available to catch. All of the puzzles must be solved for all the Unown variations to appear.
