MIDYAT SYRIACS RETURN TO THEIR VILLAGES
Mardin/Midyat Syriacs are returning to their villages which they
deserted because of the PKK terrorism.
The peaceful and secure atmosphere that has been ensured in the
region where the PKK terrorist organization shed blood for years,
has also influenced the Syriacs.
Another important reason for the Syriacs' return to their
villages, is the assurances stated in a circular concerning the
Syriacs, which was issued by Ecevit some time ago.
Syriacs, who constitute the half of the Midyat's population and
who had to migrate to various European countries and to some
major cities such as Istanbul and Izmir because of the restless
situation resulted from the PKK terrorism, are making
preparations for returning, by taking the advantage of the
peaceful atmosphere that has been ensured since two years.
Seyhmus Nasiroglu, the mayor of Midyat, a county of Mardin, says
that the Syriacs come back to visit the places where they
previously lived, and he also states that n early 20 families
started to restore their houses in the last one year's of time
with the aim of coming back.
Anto Nuay, the President of the Syriacs' Foundation of Midyad,
stated that they are so happy for the return of the Syriacs and
continued as follows: "Syriacs cannot get the emotional
satisfaction in the European countries where they go. Perhaps,
they can get the monetary satisfaction, but they cannot get the
emotional satisfaction. They consider themselves as strangers in
the European countries."
On the other hand, it has been learnt that five Yezidi families
who migrated to Germany has made applications to the authorities
in order to return to their villages. Yezidis stated that many
Yezidi families who migrated to the European countries, want to
return to their villages in case the necessary conditions for
setting are obtained.
