COMPANY RESPONSIBILITIES

As the restaurants’ owner, Mr. Jao is in charge of the site content and is responsible for informing us, his web designers, for any changes or updates in his products. He finalizes all decisions to ensure that each descriptions and images corresponds with his business and that all sources are strictly from Cultures Restaurants as a franchise. Through Mr. Jao’s preferences and company information that we get are ideas from in terms of the image that we will project through the web site.

CURRENT IT & TELECOMMUNICATIONS SYTEMS

Currently Mr. Jao uses Rogers @ Home as his connection to the Internet, with Windows XP as his operating system. In terms of calculating sales, inventory and assessing financial statements, Mrs. Debbie Jao utilizes QuickBooks Pro, and integrates with other business applications with this software. Because Cultures is a family owned business, they do not have networked office computers.

INTRANETS & EXTRANETS

Intranet is the latest term to describe when the Internet's protocols and applications are used, not for accessing the vast resources on the Internet, but for moving information within an organization's boundaries. It is a company-wide software and information distribution system that uses Internet tools and technology. With Intranets, it provides an easy front end to company databases, and lets individuals and departments publish information they need to communicate to the rest of the company. Although this may beneficial for Mr. Jao’s business, it is not necessary at this point in time. Mrs. Debbie Jao handles their restaurants documents, manuals, and policies, and deals with supplier information and product databases.

Unlike Intranets that gives access to people who are members of the same organization, extranets provides various levels of accessibility to others. Again Mr. Jao does not feel that this would be applicable since his business his simply a single chain restaurant, but rather he would find it more advantageous towards Cultures’ head office. Further, this type of software is closed to the public, open to selected partners and applies to mixtures of open and closed networks.

SHIPPING & HANDLING

Setting up a shipping account is not necessary for Mr. Jao’s business. This type of service is only appropriate for other types of industries such as retail, and it does not apply for our company project. Although shipping is “one of the few things that links you physically with your customers”, Mr. Jao provides a catering service; therefore this type of method is not required for this business.
