WALCHAND COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, SANGLI
Home
The college is very reputed. We had a wonderful faculty in college - especially in the Mechanical Engineering Department. Most of the professors were old-timers having had long years of distinguished service. They were genius in their respective subjects and there were several times when we felt like saying "Hats Off ! "
The hostel life was wonderful. There are 10 boys' hostels and 1 ladies hostel. The boys' hostels are numbered from D1-D8 and the M.E. hostels. We had a lot of fun in the hostels .....  staying up late chit-chatting, going to movies pretty regularly, the fun in the food mess, pulling each other's legs, playing games, etc.
The birthday bumps sessions in the hostels used to be real fun and some of them have been permanently etched in memory. Another wonderful part of hostel life was "Hostel Sports". The rivalry between the seniors and the juniors .... the shouting all around ... it was a tremendous experience.
Snakes and big white monkeys also used to pay a visit sometimes and it used to be fun too.
Seen on the left is one of the entrances to the college. The building being seen in the picture is the main building in the college.
It has the Main office, the Registrar's office and the Principal's cabin.
The ground floor of this building used to house our classes in the first year of engineering.
Just outside the classes is a small circular tank.
There are also "jambul" trees close to the classrooms.
The college was a hotbed of curricular and extra-curricular activities. There were several student groups active in the college like Sneha Group, Rotaract, Speakers' Club and PACE. These groups used to organise their own activities. In addition to this the college used to organise the Annual Social Gathering and a technical symposium called "VISION".
The campus was very scenic. The view from the D-6 hostel top lobby was one of the best views in the hostels. The cricket ground in the college was huge and we enjoyed cheering the Walchand team out here.
Just outside the main college gate passes the Sangli-Miraj highway. There used to be a "tapri" here managed by "Anandrao". The omlette sandwiches and the egg bhurji here were top class and was a favourite haunt of a lot of students.
The were a lot of bakeries and "tapris" around the college and they were regular hangouts too.
The college food messes were very good. Some of the messes like "Imperial", "Venus" and "Parsi" were the best. Barring cold chapatis which used to become like rubber, everything else was very good.
Seen on the left is the emblem of the college. "Kriya Siddhi Satve" is written in Sanskrit on the emblem.

The postal address of the college is -
          Walchand College of Engineering,
          Vishrambag, Sangli - 416 415,
          Maharashtra, INDIA.
The college has a very well equipped library. There are study libraries too. These study libraries are a popular hangout during exam days.
The college also has a canteen. The "malak" in the canteen was very popular.  The canteen used to be open till 11:30 pm during exam days and having "double" tea late at night was in vogue.
