Mark's First Taig Lathe Project

Hi, This is a picture of my first project with the Taig micro-lathe. I purchased the lathe 15 years ago and after re-locating, getting maried, and having four children I'm finally getting around to learning how to use the lathe. I also recently obtained my fathers logan Model 200 lathe which the engine is picture on. The engine is made from a casting and stock kit purchased from PM Research..

Unfortunatly, I had a friend suggest to me to make these pages well into the project (Thanks Bill). So I didn't photograph the setups on the lathe. Hopefully next time. Also, I started out with a relatively cheap Kodak digital camera. Later I upgraded to a better camera/camcorder combination so you will see some improvement in picture quality.

Well....Enjoy!

First view of the Steam Engine. engine4
My First Photo. Cylinder and base nearly Completed. This picture was taking with the Poloroid Fun Flash Camera. I'll have to find something better to zoom in and get some detail without bluring.
Here is the piston Cylinder Inboard and Outboard Head. It was a little nerve racking drilling the two sets of blind holes and hoping they would meet in the middle of the casting. They did!
The Engine Base with Crossslides Complete engine3
Here I have finished the cross Head guides. Now for the crankshaft, crank, and Flywheel.
BrokenConnectingRod SteamEngineCrank
What a setback! When trying to pressfit the split roll pin into the crosshead and connecting rod, the connecting rod cracked. I contacted PM Research who quickly sent a replacement. And Finally, The complete image viewed from the crank side.

And here you have the fly wheel side view. I still have some minor adjustments for smoth running. I gained a lot of experience and feel alot of accomplishment in finishing the engine, now what was that next project.....
