Meet the Phenomenal Dave Schaeg

By Brandi Bard

Please meet the Phenomenal Dave Schaeg, a Golfing Grandfather, who has Multiple Myeloma (a form of cancer).

In a recent interview with this writer, Dave said, "I did not know that I was near death's door from blood clots that were about to enter my Lungs. My family called Paramedics to avert the inevitable. Everyone (friends and family) were told to say their Goodbyes, but they all said NO, whatever happens it's GODS will." Dave added, "We all possess one of the greatest tools, its our mind along with GOD, family and friends. I can't say enough about all of my close friends who were at the hospital: including Jeremy, my son, my daughter Laura and her husband Cary, who came up to the hospital from their home in Temecula all of the time."

Dave lost 7" in height, going from 6 feet tall, athletic Adonis to a 5 foot 5" Gnome. As cancer attacked the spinal column, it caused compression fractures of the spine, once in the hospital he fell out of bed, causing more fractures. Dave credits a really great Doctor, Dr. Wade Nishamata of Torrance, California, his Oncologist, who, even though he was a busy physician, never rushes his patient. "He's one of the best Doctors I ever had, said Dave."

Dave's myeloma was Cancer of the bone marrow and T-cells and attacked his spinal column. He had to have monthly infusions of Aradea  (A bone density builder which worked well for Dave even though he was in excruciating pain in the hospital. It was even necessary to implant a morphine pump and fill it with morphine every three months.

Dave still plays golf in the mid 90's and works out on his treadmill 3 - 4 times a week, even though he was diagnosed with Myeloma at 50 years of age. Dave did a lot of his own vitamin nutritional research, he drinks an herbal tea efface (he says it's a bunch of roots. It’s an immune booster that works so well for him,  he still drinks it now.

As a native of Ohio, Dave has lived in the South Bay for many years, and now has moved to Temecula near his family. He has three grandchildren: Bailey 5 1/2, Jenna 3 1/2, and Kira 1 1/2 years old. Our phenom works for Honeywell International, (if you pass by say hi from all of us), the former Allied Signal Company that has promoted tooling services, controlling, and loading of adhesives, paints.

Dave is a very happy, positive family man with a great faith in the power of family, GOD, and friends to help him continue to beat this form of cancer.

PS: This myeloma is not a form of lymphoma; however the Lymphoma Research Foundation of America will hold a large information meeting in October.
