The Car Chase in films
Having seen the atrocious
S.W.A.T.
, I decided that it was time to do a show on films that feature great car chase sequences. It may seem like some of these films were constructed around their particular car chase sequences, but in the grand scheme of things that doesn't matter here. This is popcorn-entertainment with squealing tires and, sometimes, great actors to boot! In this particular show, Peter and Geoff highlighted
Steve McQueen
, a former stunt driver, for his work in
Bullitt
(considered the best American film with a car chase). Peter has a special place in his heart for the late
John Frankenheimer's
Ronin
-- one of the best espionage thrillers he's ever seen in the past couple of years.
Robert DeNiro
and
Jean Reno
speed around Paris in elegant BMW's chasing an IRA terrorist played by
Jonathan Pryce
. What a cast! Other films to chase after at the video store include:
Doug Liman's
The Bourne Identity
and
William Friedkin's The French Connection
.
