Peter Maitland
Title: Film Commentator
Peter Maitland has worked as both a professional journalist and as a public relations officer. Having received his Master's Degree in Journalism from Carleton University in 1998, Peter started a prolific career as a producer for CBC National Radio in Toronto and turned to freelance writing for a variety of publications, including The Ottawa Citizen, National Post, Ottawa Life magazine and the now-defunct Metro.
At Metro, Peter was the full time film critic, combining the analytical skills he learned from four years in Film Studies at Carleton (he holds a Undergraduate Bachelor's Degree in Film Studies/Mass Communications) and the clear, concise writing skills he developed in the School of Journalism. Peter now works as public relations officer/writer for a federal agency, but his first love remains film.
Interview subjects have been many, but highlights include filmmakers such as Atom Egoyan, Norman Jewison, and Ottawa's own Lee Gordon Demarbre (Harry Knuckles; Jesus Christ, Vampire Hunter).
Peter's long term goal is to return to university one more time to get a Doctorate in Cultural Studies. He wants to teach at the post-secondary level and project the zest he has for film to those who share his passion. Peter is entering his eighth season of Moving Images with the able help of co-host/technical producer Chris Gordon, co-host Geoff Sangster and technical producer Calvin Kwok. Peter loves CKCU-FM for its voluntarism and its community spirit as a whole.
