If one picture is worth a thousand words, a single sound is worth at least as many words. Microsoft Word 2000 helps you use sounds to enhance and extend communication. You can insert an existing sound file, sound clips from the Microsoft Clip Gallery, or a new sound you create.
Before you can insert a new sound file, you must have a sound program (such as Microsoft Sound Recorder), a sound card, and speakers installed on your computer. If you want to create a new sound, you will also need a microphone or other audio input device to record the sound. To play a sound, double-click the icon for the sound.

Now, you can capture sounds that words fail to describe, or use sounds to express exactly what you mean. For instance, share the new baby's first words with your family in an electronic letter or capture the sounds of a colorful marketplace in Naples, and post the sounds to a web page! For information about inserting background sounds to web pages, type insert sound on web in the Office Assistant or on the Answer Wizard tab, and then click Search.
